The Famous Grouse Whisky mascot writ large. It's on the Edrington site in the Drumchapel area of Glasgow. It's just a pity it's not really publicly accessable.

It can be hard to find a different angle to capture well-photographed landmarks. This is my attempt at doing so for one of the Kelpies, a pair of 30 metre high sculptures which mark the eastern end of the Forth and Clyde Canal.

Ngwi Ndem, an 82cm Cameroonian sculpture known by Europeans as the Bangwa Queen, was supposedly given or sold by Chief Fontem Asonganyi in the 1890s to Gustav Conrau, a German trader and colonial agent. It changed hands several times before being purchased by the Dapper Foundation in Paris in 1999 for $3.8M. Since 2017, Chief Charles Taku, a great grandson of Asonganyi and lead counsel at the International Criminal Court, says that Ngwi Ndem was stolen, and he wants it back. @thecontinent reports on the case as part of its Museum of Stolen History series.

Hello, I’m a ceramic artist. I just left Instagram for Pixelfed with obvious reasons. Wasn’t that easy to figure all of this out but I’ve made it! I’ll be happy to share my work and see yours. Just back from a fabulous Taoxichuan Longquan International Ceramic Residency. A few shots from the exhibit Virtuous Céladons here. I keep my account professional. #ceramics #ceramique #sculpture #artcontemporain #contemporaryart #Longquan #lqtxc #architecture

Good morning lovely folks. Meant to be a hot one here (heading for 40C) so staying home and cool. Here's a cool misty memory for everyone doing likewise. #art #sculpture #garden #Canberra
View of the reed filled pond at the sculpture garden (National Gallery of Australia in Canberra several years back). The mist sculpture is on and the reeds have a haze of mist around them. Sculpted heads stick out of the water amid the reeds (can be a little creepy). Lots of tall trees in the sunshine behind the reeds plus a twisty silver metal sculpture.

New at my Patreon... I saw a new show of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama's work, and left in two minds. Is it fun and colourful, or lacking in substance? Or both?

A random sculpture hidden between two benches in the centre of Dundee.

There are lots of random small sculptures to be found in the city centre. They are part of a public art project called Lost and Found by Jeremy Cunningham. There is no sculpture trail map for this and they are not all obvious, all the times I have sat on these benches, and today was the first time I noticed this!

This week I've been mainly reading, no. 194.

Detailing the recent exhibition at the Hepworth, Wakefield,
Ego Ahaiwe Sowinski, and others, survey, Ronald Moody: Sculpting Life (2024) is the first book to explore the work & career of this Caribbean (UK based) sculptor. Its a fascinating introduction to a major but often ignored figure, which doesn't shy away from the racism of the art world. Really well illustrated, this is a revalatory & vital publication.
