The empty change rooms at the Baths. Bit of an abandoned building vibe when this happens. They're pretty basic but they do the job. And two of the showers are hot - luxury! #MerewetherBaths #NewcastleNSW
Communal change room and shower area. Painted wooden benches with a raised wooden horizontal bar with wooden hooks to hang towels from. White tiled open shower area set against the wall with 2 of the four showers visible. Light comes in from high frosted windows. Roof is corrugated iron.
Communal change room. More long painted wooden benches, concrete floor. Fluorescent bar lights on the corrugated iron ceiling. Behind the wall at the end are a couple of loos and a sink. Exit is down that end to the right.

Swim was on today - despite the dangerous surf warning, flags were up at the Baths. Yay! #ocean #swim #MerewetherBaths #NewcastleNSW
The northern end of the ocean baths. The wide concrete concourse cuts through on a diagonal, dividing beach and rocks from the shallow and main pools. The small rounded white pump-house is on the back corner. A line of white pounding waves builds up behind. Still mostly blue sky and sunshine.

As i walked down the last set of steps to the baths today, a young bloke climbing up said, "Hey hey, Legend."

Sadly, dear reader, he was not talking to me.

And this was not a surprise. 😂

Looking down the concrete steps that lead to the 2 pools at the ocean baths on a sunny day. The green-blue ocean pools are surrounded by dark brown rock exposed by the low tide. Ocean is a deeper cool blue. Sky lighter and warmer, with some smudges of cloud along the horizon.

Outstanding day to be in or near the water. Cloudy earlier but soon brightened up. #ocean #swim #MerewetherBaths #NewcastleNSW
The rounded white side of the pump-house building and a two rail metal fence sits between the water and sky. The water of the main pool is silky, offering an imperfect reflection of pump-house, metal railing, and cloudy sky.

Brief swim in the small pool. Water warm but lots of weed washed in. #swim #ocean #MerewetherBaths #NewcastleNSW
Shallow pool at the ocean baths: grey water, grey sky, and rain on the camera lens distorting the pic. Can see the white of breakers to the left and the bluff looming to the right but the distant curve of coastline beyond has been swallowed up by the weather.

More clouds and a few sprinkles of rain kicked off this morning's swim. #ocean #swim #MerewetherBaths #NewcastleNSW
Looking down the stainless steel railing towards the rounded white pump house building and out to sea. On the right of the railing, there is the raised concrete concourse and the green-blue water of the main ocean pool. On the left, the concrete wall slants down to where the incoming tide has totally covered the natural rock platform. Further out, there's a line of white where the waves break on the edge of the hidden rocks. The sky is full of mostly grey clouds.

Out for my swim this morning. Along with most of the town it feels like. Lucky to snag a park on the street high above the Baths. Such a gorgeous day! #ocean #swim #MerewetherBaths #NewcastleNSW
Looking down at both ocean pools at the Merewether Baths on a glorious day. Shrub on the hill in the foreground, white roof of the Baths building, blue-green pools, a rock shelf then blue ocean out to the horizon.

Love the orange of this lap swimmer's gear. Made me feel like i was swimming with goldfish. 😆#swim #ocean #MerewetherBaths #NewcastleNSW
Photo of the blue green water at the lap lane end of the pool with a freestyle swimmer in a bright orange and black swimming outfit (with sleeves and leggings - so could be wetsuit or rashie and legging combo). The swimmer's left arm is raised mid stroke and one of their legs has kicked up almost to the surface. Blue sky, clouds and overgrown rocky hillside in the background.
