I am not surprised that the word won the popular vote as well. Any Australian who has had the misfortune to grapple with the monopoly that is Ticketmaster in order to buy a ticket to an event soon reaches for Doctorow's neologism

Yes it's a great word, I think though he is misguided in his belief that things will get better, in-fact it is our own governments intention to ramp up this effect with their own privacy invasion policies.

The intention/goal is, you have no privacy, surveillance is power, power to control you, citizens must comply, punishment and fines will apply.

If you think none of this is true, you are totally mistaken, who do you think they have been testing it on all these years, that's right - the unemployed, and nobody did anything, that was the green-light, they got away with it.

So now you see, they will only increase their power over you, until you have none at all.

Your role, dear citizen is to provide value to the shareholders, fail in that role, you will be deemed as recyclable.

I click the link to read the Guardian article, and I cannot scroll down to read the article, the page won't move in the viewport. I turned on the Safari Reader Mode, and than I could read the article and scroll freely. 🤦🏼‍♂️
