An interesting aspect of the gender pay gap.

In the past gay women have had a pay premium over similar heterosexual women; research suggests, perhaps unsurprisingly that a lack of family breaks for gay women has enabled them to engineer more highly paid careers;

But that premium is declining; partly (possibly) due to a slow decrease in discrimination around family/career breaks... but also perhaps because more female gay families are having children?

I have posted quite a lot on the gender pay gap, and the motherhood penalty in both wages & career terms that confronts women (still!).

Here is an interesting report that focusses on the return to work of new mothers, the lack of support in the workplace for their changed (personal) circumstances and why we will only start to resolve the gender pay/career gap if we tackle & improve the plight of new mothers who want to return to work.

Is the Employment Rights Bill a step on the road to a better conditions for workers, or the limit of Labour's ambitions?

There's already been a lot of business push-back, so a clear worry is that rather than being a downpayment on a Labour led change for workers, its the whole thing.

However, if it is really is a first step & it Equality Impact Assessments (EIAs) start to inform policy, then Amy Brooker's hopes for workers may be fulfilled.

Kid had a red (unicorn) t-shirt on today, and was wearing Spiderman sneakers. She has long hair, and yet all the moms at the playground immediately defaulted to calling her a little boy.

The whole thing fascinates me. My mom tells me you can only find red and blue at rhe boys' section at the store. I am amazed at how gender coded kids' clothing is... 😆

Rather than worry why #female leaders step-back from leadership roles when they find (as #JacindaArdern said) they 'no longer [have] enough in the tank', the real problem is male leaders who arrogantly carry on even when they are way off the top of their game.... still, as always, easier to blame the women, I guess.... just more #gender discrimination playing out
