The press stopped talking about Luigi Mangione because they were making him a martyr. They portrayed him as an evil dragon, preying on our village.

In reality, he was a dragon slayer.

Fining #UnitedHealthcare $165 million is a #joke. $165 million is about 0.055% of their total #wealth...it would be like an average #American being arrested for speeding and the police send them a ticket demanding they pay a #fine of a fraction of one cent.

There is this monstrosity that calls itself health care but is not. I'm not even sure what it should be called? CruelCare? DeathCult? #Dr.Potter talking about a breast reconstruction surgery interrupted by a United HealthCare staffperson who wanted to know -- right away -- if her patient had to spend the night at the hospital. https://www.yahoo.com/news/unitedhealthcare-calls-doctor-mid-surgery-201800124.html

WILDFIRE
United Healthcare and California Corporate Welfare

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxI5qLUopYI

United Health shareholders demand a review of the claim denials the company uses as widespread criticism rages over the U.S. healthcare system as a whole, with United being the biggest user of denials by a long shot. Also discussed are California wildfires that continue to rage, and how corporate welfare and handouts made this situation much much worst.

"I had to scrub out mid-surgery to call United, only to find that the person on the line didn't even have access to the patient's full medical information, despite the procedure already being pre-approved. It's beyond frustrating and, frankly, unacceptable. Patients and providers deserve better than this. We should be focused on care, not bureaucracy."

oh a new years day morning note from my current health care (#UnitedHealthCare owned #Optum branded #AtriusHealth, the former #HarvardVanguard) provider, requiring me to log in to their health care portal.

Will it be
A nice note about the new year and making healthy choices?

A thank you for continuing to use their services after 20 years?

A gentle nudge to pay a bill?

No:

Insurance companies are fighting to keep us distracted so that they can steal from us. They argue that healthcare is "complex." If there were profits to be make from simplifying healthcare costs, health insurance companies would simplify them. But there is far to much money to be made by declaring they are "victims" of a complex system. Folks, complexity is far easier to exploit than simplicity. Insurance companies will continue to clamor for complexity because their grift depends upon it. #unitedhealthcare #greed #grift #fraud

'I can't go on like this': US asks what's next for healthcare

Well you are going to have to go on like this, because, thanks to Scotus and "Citizens United" not even God has enough money to pay for the Congressional votes you would need to establish a single payer system.

Random Thought...

There is an obvious raw measure of sentiment, based on how many people are openly saying it: the more popular an action, the more people will call for it.

There's also a threshold here, where, if the thing is illegal, perhaps even calling for a crime or condoning it, there is a limit to how many people can be saying it before systems in place (moderation, regulators, police, etc) can no longer take effective action. This would not only mean enough people could call for a technically illegal act, but that anyone looking to do said act would have the cover of a lot of other people talking about it.

Take the #UnitedHealthcare #CEO #shooting, and how so many people sympathized with, and even condoned the illegal action, it became impossible for moderators to enforce it on Social Media (if we cared) but for #government actors to act.

I wonder what other illegal #activism we will see this with over the next few years, in this uncharted political territory...

I knew that healthcare spending and results in the US were worse than in various European countries...

But I had no idea they were this bad.

The US spends more than 3 times as much as Italy on healthcare, but still has an average life expectancy that is four years lower.

If you allow for "statistical" deaths, it becomes clear that the health insurance and for-profit healthcare industries in the United States are killing tens of thousands a year and the only consequence they face is... increased profits.

With #UnitedHealthcare one of the major beneficiaries of this profiting off death
Complex chart showing life expectancy against per-capita health care spending for Italy, Japan, France, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom (England, Wales, Scotland), and the United States. The US is a clear, striking outlier.

"Believing the health insurance industry is at least partly responsible for the murder of the UnitedHealthcare CEO is not some fringe position. 69 percent of Americans say health insurance claim denials had “a great deal” or “moderate amount” of responsibility for the killing of CEO Brian Thompson, according to a new poll conducted by NORC at University of Chicago. Nearly as many (67 percent) blamed health insurance company profits.

The poll also captures a nuance that’s sorely lacking in major media coverage, which tends to collapse the issue into two camps: those who condemn the murder vs. those who support it. That kind of two-sizes-fits-all framing leaves no room for the view that both the shooter and the healthcare industry share responsibility for the CEO’s death. NORC’s poll suggests this more nuanced attitude is in fact quite mainstream. The number of respondents who blamed the shooter wasn’t much higher (78 percent) than those who blamed health insurance claim denials (69 percent)."
