Another road trip, another rest/hike stop where we found a wonderful little trail that we had all to ourselves. With lots of new-to-me mosses and lichens. In Fine, New York.
Starting with red stemmed feather moss

Red stemmed feather moss, or Pleurozium schreberi, forming a crescent shape of individual sprouts that each look like a fractal star of pale green. The form reminds me of the Fibonacci fractal of romanesco broccoli.

Up early to meet today's builders and see what job they are doing today in the wetroom.

Later, a friend will be taking us across to Yorkshire to see, and hopefully buy, a car.

Last day at caretaking work for 2 1/2 weeks now, while the roof is being done.
We'll still go and take the bins out as it is less stressful to do that than to worry about the state of them after three missed collection days.

A picture for #mosstodon to kick off the new year 😊 A tiny landscape of top of a fence post.

A pyramid shaped concrete fence post top, covered in a green and brown landscape of soft moss. There are bare bushes in the background, with the sunset colors peeking through them.

I made the transition to #Mastodon the day Elon closed his deal. Looking back, the difference is surreal.

On Twitter, my feed was full of political trolls pushing my buttons and pissing me off and making me question my faith in humanity.

On Mastodon, I get to read opinions from many of the same people I respected over there... but also I get brief, random windows into subcommunities like #Mosstodon, which is a delightful group of nature weirdoes and scientists posting pictures of moss they see out in the wild. It's so wholesome and positive that it restores my faith in humanity.
