Summer Greens

A gorgeous day by Loch Earn, perfect for a stroll along the waterside to a viewpoint above the roads. Magical!

Looking back to June, and a trip we took to Loch Earn in the southern highlands of #Scotland, in the districts of Perth and Kinross, and Stirling.

A colour photo of a body of water with mountains on the opposite side. The sky is blue with fluffy scattered clouds and the waters of the loch are reflecting this. The flanks of the mountains (known as "Grahams") are clothed in green vegetation, the lower parts covered in woodland and the upper flanks showing patches of brownish scrub. In the centre of the shot and down the side of the mountain is a cleft filled with trees, this is a waterfall cascading down, encouraging strong growth. The foreground in front of the loch waters is a row of green trees. Dotted across the water are small boats, and more of them are moored on the opposite shore. It's beautiful.

Once in a lifetime photo.

Towards the end of a fabulous auroral display, a meteor streaked through my shot.
I was literally dancing with joy!

Early November 2021, near Egilsstaðir in eastern #Iceland.
ISO-800 f/2.8 15 seconds exposure.

A strong auroral display beginning to break up, creating a swirling mass of green loops and spikes in the lower two-thirds of the shot. Above them, the stars are visible, in particular Ursa Major the Plough (Big Dipper) in the top left. The foreground is a silhouette of gentle hills, some trees are visible on the skyline which give scale. Near the centre of the shot, travelling from upper right to lower left, a sputtering fireball is streaking through.
