oh interesting, so it's like a broadcast, I will test this out and see how it looks on different parts of the #fediverse

Wishing I could just arbitrarily share links to music files to my channel from the existing collection.. A bit as if it was a blog with #activitypub identity

What I find odd is that newly added music files, on a channel, don't appear as posts in the @admin feed. #Funkwhale isn't really obvious to me in terms of #activitypub

I wish #Funkwhale had a "social media" layer on top of the existing engine, so that, Funkwhale instance could be used to both upload music, manage podcast etc.. But also be used to communicate with others on the #fediverse

For now, one can only follow,for example @admin

Wenn ich es richtig verstehe, ist Funkwhale vielseitiger (auch für Musik) und Castopod komplexer mit mehr Funktionen speziell für Podcasts.
Beides scheint Vor- und Nachteile zu haben... Wie sind Eure Erfahrungen? Was sind Eure Anforderungen?
Hat vielleicht jmd sich auch schon mal beides im Vergleich angeschaut?

I noticed that the project #EUnomia started to be more active within the fediverse.

So I want to remind that it's a research project funded with around 3 millions, also aiming to investigate the #fediverse.

companies leading #projectEUnomia are also involved in:

- mass surveilience
- military and law enforcment
- developing strategies and tools countering mass movements
- countering local journalism with clickbait

The #fediverse for the last two weeks has been having it's own version of a Eternal September: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal_September

But from what I have seen so far, it has been a way better version if it, and I am hopeful.

Some instances had more new users in two weeks than in the last 3 years.

And this is bound to cause some concerns for some, but it is a learning process that goes both ways.

Even if you run your own instance, like I do, you have no #privacy on the #fediverse.

Only I get to read the direct messages received at my instance but I have no control over who sees the direct messages I send to other instances.

So, again, until end-to-end encryption is mandated by the core protocol (ActivityPub), remember:

Treat all posts on #mastodon / the fediverse as public and use an end-to-end encrypted messaging app like Signal if you want to have private conversations with people.

I tried several instances, registration didn't work at any! I got only from one instance a mail for confirmation of my account... and that instance seems to be very unstable, couldn't do more there ... Which instance do you recommend? #stable #reliable #open for #anonymlisteners

Strange combination: a podcast (@festundflauschig) that is active in the Fediverse (embracing Open Source for their marketing & community building) but that publishes content since a few months in a 'walled garder' exclusively (i.e. Spotify only with open RSS feed killed).

Should we call this hypocrite? Or should we be happy that a commercial endeavour is embracing the federation?
