As a professor of critical thinking, I approve this message.

Just as you don't need a calculator in every class, you don't need AI in every class. It cheats your learning experience.

"Teachers warn AI is impacting students' critical thinking"

https://www.axios.com/2025/03/30/teachers-ai-students-critical-thinking

"Artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly dominant role in how students navigate school, and some teachers are warning the technology could be hurting their critical thinking skills."

"Tech comms can be a business, but thinking is not selling: it requires intellectual freedom and courage. Leaving these conversations to engineers risks turning technical communication into a caricature of itself, a four-quadrant fantasy devised to lure developers into thinking that documentation is a simple pastime, yet another Jira task.

Only independent thought can help us progress and navigate uncertainty, including our future in a world where AI is injected into every domain that deals with words. Technical writers must own their problems and the conversations around them, or they will slowly fade into irrelevance, their problems absorbed by other disciplines that have more pressing problems to focus on. And if you’re reading that we should lobby more, you’re not wrong: defending knowledge requires power.”

B/c they played around with #ArtificialIntelligence to find out if it made you dumb, and it does... DUH! 😎🤣

"Microsoft Corp. plans to spend $80B on AI this year, reinforcing its position as a leading vendor. So why did it recently publish a research paper showing an erosion of #criticalthinking skills among workers using #generativeAI tools such as #ChatGPT?"

"You never know how close you are to freedom. All you can do is keep fighting". Erin Axelman, #israelism co-director.
His highlighting the irony of #Israel & #colonial powers in general lamenting the lack of #nonviolence in #resistance gives me great hope. Because here is a young man who grew up in a #zionist brainwashed environment, emerging with intact #criticalthinking, deciding to use his talent to change minds & ultimately forge a future for an inclusive #Jewish & #Palestinian society.

I'm not surprised if such things did happen. But I am not inclined to believe this (or any) particular narrative in the absence of proof.

Let's avoid the messy thinking the "others" engage in -- it is an iterative loop from which we must break free!

Meta is abandoning its misinformation program despite studies showing such programs are effective.

▪️ Why abandon it?

▪️ What impact could this have on misinformation online?

▪️ Why might Meta qualify this as a "censorship" issue?

▪️ How might young people be harmed as a result of this?

If someone says a system is "efficient," the question should be, "Efficient for what?"

Efficiency for speed is the opposite of efficient for fuel conservation. Efficiency for lightweight is the opposite of efficiency for carrying heavy loads. Efficiency for profit is the opposite of efficiency for human and earth wellness.

When they say "capitalism is the most efficient," that's true, but not for mine or your needs.

Learning to think critically and discern truth from lies is an important life skill, but many people don’t harness the ability, nor take the time. They believe whatever they hear, see, and read because someone, somewhere, said so. While most of the time, it flies without harm, but many times it can be harmful or outright dangerous.
