This boils my blood. I don't know the US labour history, but I do know how hard public sector workers in Canada and Alberta had to fight to gain collective bargaining rights, which they were not allowed because they were "civil servants".

All public worker strikes were wildcat strikes and illegal until 1967 when Federal workers gained the right to collective bargaining through the Public Service Staff Relations Act which took 2 years to pass through Parliament after the wildcat Postal Workers Strike of 1965.

Federal government employees responded by joining unions in record numbers.

Public sector workers in Alberta did not gain these rights until 2016, when the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that ALL Canadian workers have the fundamental right to strike, essential to even the playing field between workers and employers.

That hasn't even been 10 years ago, that our Provincial healthcare workers, education workers, social workers, wildlife workers, custodial workers, and many more have had access to such basic fundamental rights to legal collective job action! You may not have realized that all these strikes you are seeing now are history in the making!

We are living out a struggle for the right of the working-class to SURVIVE.

It breaks my heart to see our fallen comrades losing this fight with such desperation to the south, and makes me fearful of the coming storm we will have to face in Canada as our populist shadow government pushes to put us down in Canada.

 —
President Donald Trump took his most consequential action against federal employee unions yet late Thursday, signing an executive order aimed at ending collective bargaining for government employees whose work include national security aspects.

The expansive order applies to workers across many federal agencies, including the departments of State, Defense, Justice and Health and Human Services. It also impacts the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Federal Communications Commission, and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

A fact sheet released by the White House said, “The President needs a responsive and accountable civil service to protect our national security.”

It's really scary how far Poilievre's disinformation about journalism in Canada has spread with the help of Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, and the Trump administration's political interference. We need to fight back and speak out. We can't let our echo chambers make us complacent that the rest of the country is informed.

Are BBC articles not allowed in Canada for some reason? Genuine curiosity.

Stephanie Staley:
Matthew Olson Canada blocks almost all new from other countries. They basically only have "state sponsored” news now.
Paul Young:
Tiah Shamchuk thank the Liberals for blocking news media, just incase someone shares the truth about him and his pedo addiction. But now that he's gone the new guy ,who works for WEF , has some wacky ideas of how humans need to pay to exist and needs approval to have babies.

Tiah Shamchuk Oh my, sorry for all the disinformation in this thread. @ It is not your country which sucks, it is the oligarchy in the United States which did all of this. Canada just said that journalists should be paid for their journalistic work, and Mark Zuckerberg said, "screw that, I'm not giving journalists a cent". End of story.

Meta is a US owned company. US billionaires don't think they should have to play fair, by anybody's rules. That's all there is to it. Don't let them victim- blame Canada for their abusive bullying.

Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and the Conservative Party of Canada have been working together to take down free, independent journalism across both Canada and the United States, especially public media because they cannot be controlled by wealth. That's what this is all about.

March 2, 2025 in London, England

Reporter: "You clearly admire President Zelenskyy. So I'm wondering what you thought when you saw the treatment he received in the Oval Office on Friday?"

Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada:
"I think, first of all, it's important every chance we get to lay out the facts as clearly as possible. In 2014, Russia chose to invade Ukraine, to occupy Crimea and parts of Eastern Ukraine. For that, they were kicked out of the G7 and in 2022 they chose to violate the existing ceasefire and invaded Ukraine with the intention of taking Kyiv in three days and the entire country in three weeks. That has failed. Russia continues to try to fight to claim more land in Ukraine, and we could see an end to this war tomorrow if Russia decided to stop its illegal invasion of Ukraine. On Friday in the Oval Office, President Zelenskyy pointed out in so many words that Vladimir Putin is a liar and a criminal and cannot be trusted to keep his word in any way, shape or form, because he has demonstrated time and time again that he will break any agreements. I stand with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and I stand with the people of Ukraine."

Note that these simple historic facts which are public knowledge and can be looked up by anyone, are what were stated by Volodymyr Zelenskyy when Donald Trump responded with, "It is very disrespectful of you to litigate this in front of American media" (found about halfway through the meeting, if you're looking in the videos).

Trump was attempting to spread Putin's "alternate timeline" to the American people, and told Zelenskyy that it is "disrespectful" of him to tell historic truth about what happened in his own country, in front of live video cameras in the US. Think about that...

Donald Trump went absolutely livid when President Zelenskyy gave the American people a free history lesson on live tv, something which he knows his base would never read for themselves.

Too many corporate media outlets are putting out headlines that read, "'Very disrespectful', says Trump" without telling the truth of what he found disrespectful, which was (in his own words) to counter Russian propaganda in front of American media.

Holy smokes - the UCP sure did a lot of stumbling around in Question Period today.

Good thing it isn't called Answer Period.

#ableg #abpoli

First day of the return to the Legislature after we found out how the UCP have acted corruptly and there's no demonstration.

The premier colluded with the enemy of Canada. No protest.

Why is there so little faith in Albertans....because we act like Americans and roll over for the highest levels of corruption.

That's right, billion. 70 billion.

A place that struggles frequently with drought. Owned by Kevin O'Leary. Sigh.

Pro-lifers in #Alberta are really mad that Canadian physicians get informed consent from medical patients based on their capacity to understand the procedure and risks being done to their own body (for ALL procedures, not just abortion), rather than from the patient's "owner". Guardians are involved in the case of reduced capacity, regardless of age.

If the patient is a woman, this #Patriarchy wants her treated as somebody without full mental capacity and bodily autonomy.

Excerpt from the CPSA (College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta)'s Standards of Practice on Informed Consent reads:

The Standards of Practice of the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (“CPSA”) are the minimum standards of professional behavior and ethical conduct expected of all regulated members registered in Alberta.
Standards of Practice are enforceable under the Health Professions Act and will be referenced in the management of complaints and in discipline hearings. CPSA also provides Advice to the Profession to support the implementation of the Standards of Practice.
1. A regulated member must obtain a patient’s informed consenti prior to an examination, assessment, treatment or procedure; such consent may be implied, expressed orally or in writing as appropriate.
2. If a patient is under the age of 18 years, a regulated member must:
a. determine whether the patient is a mature minor with the capacity to give informed consent1; and
b. if the patient is not a mature minor, seek informed consent from the patient’s legal guardian, in accordance with legislation1.
3. If an adult patient lacks capacity to give informed consent, a regulated member must seek informed consent from the patient’s legal guardian or substitute decision maker, in accordance with legislation[1].
