When I started here, there were still tools to find people from other sites who had moved here, but those have mostly been blocked (by the other platforms).

My way of finding people to follow is to post a lot and see who follows me, probably not the best way 😉
It is also good to try following a few #tags and see who is posting on those.

I think I'll stop directing the blog articles on Mastodon , because the tags I use aren't shown on the post making it just a link to my blog and not something that amalgamate with the fediverse.
