We are fast approaching the holidays, probably the most lucrative time in the book publishing business.

The market is about to be flooded with Christmas books with AI generated images.

Don't buy Christmas books with AI generated images.*

*Or any AI gift books for the winter holidays, actually

What's wrong with buying books for Christmas?
I don't tend to impose it, given that I'm pagan :D But I was raised in Catholic school and I totally understand what you are getting at. It would have probably been more accurate to say "Don't buy AI generated gift books for the winter holidays."

(A lot of publishers bring out most of their books, regardless of topic, for this season, at least in Hungary.)
I now know the other context of the discussion but the footnote reads more to me “don’t gift others books during the winter holidays” than “be vigilant of AI books during this season, no matter what or whether you celebrate” - unsure if it will come off that way to others, or if that ended up being the intent.
Don't hang AI ornaments on your Christmas tree. Don"t donate coal from your stocking to burn to power AIs. Don't have an AI invent things to give for another 12 days of Christmas. Don't use an AI to create more Rudolph, Frosty, and Charlie Brown Christmas specials. Don't have an AI cook your Christmas ham or goose. Don't have AI write your holiday cards especially with a prompt "Write greeting cards to those people I only ever communicate with by sending Christmas cards."
I love me sum of that sweet sweet nausea that goes with "AI" images mmmmm
the issue is that since celebrity news have a hypnotic effect on parents and grandparents, they would need a 1-month long crash course streamed in place of the usual TV content about how to recognise AI generated pictures and text. WITH EXAM!!
I'm going to plug the relevant #BehindTheBastards podcast episode, hope you don't mind! https://www.iheart.com/podcast/105-behind-the-bastards-29236323/episode/part-one-ai-is-coming-for-117712422/
apparently, it is difficult to ID an AI generated book at the store ( maybe easier online to check an author’s publications - thank goodness my hobbie is purchasing history books that are older than I am :-) , or direct from local history writers.
If - not when - I finish the book that's in hand, I'm thinking about "NO AI WAS (AB)USED in the making of this, um, thing." as a cover tag. Or, I'll just say "the hell with it." After all, I've got 8 more out there.
