I have cancelled all but one of my streaming video subscriptions in an effort to save money. I wanted to watch a certain movie but didn’t have a physical or digital copy, and didn’t want to purchase it. Suddenly, I remembered that libraries exist. Today I walked to the library and checked out a few movies on Blu-ray and DVD. For free. I feel strangely powerful. Support - and use - your local library.

I went to the Academy of Sciences library, and found that the card catalog has been replaced by computers at last. At one of these computers sat an elegant elderly lady, sporting a Retro Academia look. As I walked past her station, she looked up and snapped:

"What the hell are you looking at?! I won't quit until I find the damn thing!!!" And kept smashing furiously at the keyboard.

I think I just encountered academic road rage.

A good example of why #libraries exist. A #library contains the #books we need, when we need them. There was nothing available to me as a sexually abused 11-year-old in the 1970s. I am grateful my kids have been able to find their way to the books they needed, and I will work to protect that access for my grandkids.
