First day of the FEST storytelling conference was great! Attended two workshops on environmental storytelling: one on wolves (Dougie Mackay) and one on environmental literacy (Cara Silversmith), and an amazing "provocation" presentation on diversity in the European storytelling community (by Aoife O'Connor and Peter Chand). In the evening I heard Stephe Harrop tell her Queens of Albion story and it was powerful ❤️

The Change series by Rachel Manija Brown and Sherwood Smith is my favorite YA fantasy.

By "fantasy" I mean post-apocalyptic western with mutant superpowers :D

This series does diversity right. It's part of the setting. The story also features a very cute throuple, a demisexual main character, and realistic depiction of PTSD. And yes, it's well written and exciting. Final book out in October.

I have seen it before, but it doesn't cease to astonish me to see people complaining about the X-men "becoming woke."

Like.

Dude.

My dude.

My dear little angry strawberry muffin.

THE X-MEN?!

Have you, like... literally... read any of the basic premise?
Ever?...

Here is something that came up in conversation and everyone drew a blank:

Can anyone suggest books or resources for #neurodivergent parents parenting neurotypical children?

Is this even a field of study that exists? Or just ND people as parents in general?

"Murmeltier" (Marmot) is a tale from the earliest Grimm collection that seems to be a retelling of a French fairy tale by Mme de Villeneuve (famously the author of Beauty and the Beast).

Murmeltier is a "Frau Holle" type tale, with a heroine who has a magical emotional support beaver. It also features a miller who marries a male earth spirit and lives with him in domestic bliss, raising their son together. It's quite the fun story.
