I feel the sudden urge to roll one of these into a wedding and see what happens. 😆

A pile of red apples in a produce store window. Each apple is wrapped in plastic, and into their skin two hearts are carved, with the words "I love you".

My new favorite quote, from the footnotes for Antoninus Liberalis' #mythology book:

"A hooked line cast into antiquity pulls in many other lines, all sources of red herrings!"

Hi, I'm a storyteller and here is today's #StorytellingPSA:

No, there is no "original" primary source on Greek mythology that has Persephone walking into the Underworld willingly. Sorry, Tumblr.

For today's #MythologyMonday pumpkin theme:

Not a myth, but one of my favorite folktales is the Persian tale of Pumpkin Girl (or Melon Girl). It's about a woman who adopts a crying pumpkin and raises it as her child. At school during lunchtime, a girl sneaks out of the pumpkin to eat in secret. A neighbor's son sees her and falls in love with her. The rest is a Cinderella story, and eventually the pumpkin turns into a girl for good.

The award for most badass grandparents in Greek #mythology goes to Odysseus on his mother's side for

Mestra - Daughter of King Erysichthon. She demanded shapeshifting powers from Poseidon, and used them to flee when her abusive father sold her.

Autolykos - Son of Hermes, legendary thief and trickster. No one could ever catch him.

Imagine that love story 😄

So there's a #Kickstarter project for a tarot deck based on The Classic of Mountains and Seas, which is an ancient Chinese text of mythical lands and creatures. The artwork is pretty stunning, and I LOVE this concept.

Mary Stewart's Theseus books are still some of my favorites. A thrilling re-envisioning of an ancient time, that keeps a sense of its strangeness instead of infecting it with contemporary language and mores.
