Elon Musk is boosting the AfD.
But why is Germany’s mainstream helping him?
His tweets, they are proud,
The AfD are allowed,
But mainstream support is quite dim.

Gannett (owners of the USA Today Network) and Reuters have announced a new partnership where regional and local publishers and broadcasters will be able to access feeds of their stories, photos, graphics and video, all ready to publish, in a similar way to what the Associated Press does. Journalist Matt Pearce writes for his Substack about why that's a bad thing. "The logical outcome here isn’t the net creation of more local journalism jobs, but to undercut AP’s prices and make AP’s own journalists redundant," he writes. "The endgame is to eventually diminish consumers’ options and put fewer people in charge of America’s journalists and the news Americans see."

"Journalism should be the greatest job in the world, but for many journalists — even at top news outlets — it isn't," writes Meena Thiruvengadam for Nieman Labs. She breaks down why reporters are leaving the profession, where they're going, and what might persuade them to stay.

So, The Observer has (now) been sold to Tortoise, with the Scott Trust taking a (small) interest in Tortoise & fielding a board member to ensure continuity for the paper.... while those unwilling to move have been offered voluntary severance packages & the possibility of applying for similar jobs at The Guardian.

Hopefully, now, The Observer can really distinguish itself from its erstwhile daily counterpart.

Lets hope it works as intended by James Harding

I’m trying to figure out how are people keep up with the #news and #world events. There are so many sources, so many #products and tools!

There are the social app’s feeds, #rss readers, newsletters, #podcasts, dedicated solutions, etc.

Curious to know what are people using. And do you even feel the need to keep up with world events? Is it still worth it or are you done with that?

Although it is (perhaps unsurprisingly) not featuring on the Guardian/Observer webpages, Observer journalists are about to go on strike in protest against the proposed sale of the newspaper to Tortoise media....

Given the often semi duplication between the titles, I for one would like to see the Observer independent from the Guardian, and as such a sale to Tortoise media might be an interesting route to achieve that... however the journalists clearly do not agree!
