The trauma from these LA fires will be massive. I think Fires feel worse than storms or floods because you think you can fight them. First responders will be scarred, families will fall apart, and survivors will dread every heatwave or the smell of smoke on the wind.
A family member, a cop, went into Marysville after the 2009 Black Saturday fires. They spent two weeks there. At the time, they seemed fine, but years later, the trauma and PTSD are obvious. Even the photos of the devastation still shake me, and I wasn’t even there.
