The world's tallest and longest hedge, the Meikleour Beech Hedge runs alongside and towers over the A93 a few miles south of Blairgowrie in Perthshire. Planted in the autumn of 1745, it has a tragic story to tell. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/blairgowrie/meikleourhedge/index.html

The world's tallest and longest hedge, the Meikleour Beech Hedge. The image shows a road leading up the middle of the frame with a field and some trees on the left. There are two cars travelling away from the viewer. On the right is a huge green bushy hedge extending up into the sky and as far along the road as the composition allows. The scene is in dim sunlight.

Britain's oldest tree, the #FortingallYew, is 'undergoing a sex change' https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/britain-s-oldest-tree-the-fortingall-yew-is-undergoing-a-sex-change-a6717796.html

"#Perthshire’s Fortingall #Yew, estimated to be around 5,000 years old (older than #Stonehenge), is considered male as it produces pollen, as opposed to female yews which bear seed-holding berries. However... 3 ripe red berries were spotted on one of the ancient yew’s branches this year, suggesting at least part of the #tree had become female... many other #conifers have been observed to switch sex"

'Scotland’s tired landscapes declared hidden ardour in the sun. Brown became bronze, yellow turned to gold, and rust to shining copper.'

A colour photo of a woodland. The trees have lost most of their leaves and the sea of bracken is dying back but in the sun the colours are so vibrant.

A lovely dawn for a swim in Loch Earn today. A clear cold night left mist lying on the water and draped over the hills. #Scotland #Perthshire #WildSwimming
Looking over the water towards a gap in the hills and lochside trees where the golden light of the unrisen sun is glowing in a misty sky. The glassy water in the foreground is rippled by my swimming.
