I don’t think the #50501movement protests were big enough; they were much smaller than the George Floyd protests, the Women’s March, and the 1st Term Trump Protests. You will know when the protests are an effective size because Trump will send fed goons out.

Also, looking for recommendations for more signs. Not sure how many more I'll be able to put together before #March8th, but I'd like to do something. Maybe something as hokey as "#KnowledgeIsPower" (with illustrations of books)? "#DefundCorporations"? Just a few ideas. I'd love to hear yours (and see your signs! SHOW ME YOUR SIGNS!)

The #50501movement is gathering steam with protests once again planned in all 50 state capitols today, Presidents’ Day, at noon.

Does anyone have a decent guide for protestors on dealing with stuff like rubber bullets and tear gas, and how to deal with violent and/or aggressive cops? I had an excellent one saved on my previous phone but the screen is broken.

It was a purely defensive guide for peaceful resisters, not an Anarchist's Cookbook-style thing at all.

Today's protest was better attended than the previous two were, but not as well organized as Valentine's Day protest.

The lack of organization meant that there was a vacuum into which the "People's Workers Party" stepped, since they had a megaphone. They have some decent seeming things to say about not sliding into fascism, but they kind of want a revolution. My housemate engaged one of them in conversation, and asked how they voted, and they said they didn't vote because that would be supporting a non-communist regime. I was like "you are the problem". How many people didn't vote? A lot! If you look at the numbers, Trump got about the same number that he got last time, and Harris got several million fewer than Biden got. So it's all about the people who stayed home, or didn't vote on principle. With the electoral college, it doesn't matter what you do in this blue state, but I think that popular vote matters, and so even in a blue state you should not do stupid things on principle.

We did march around a bunch. We didn't fit at the original meeting location, so we ended up being herded around in a big circle in Boston Common, and then we went off to Government Center again, where we marched around in some pedestrian-only touristy areas, Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall. There were a lot of tourists to see us, so I thought that was worth doing.

2.5 hours is too many for a protest, especially when you don't have a bunch of speakers lined up for the rally part. So we wandered back to the train station where it was warmer and hung out and had our lunches and read our books until the train came.

So, my new friend from today's #50501Movement #Protest suggested that during the winter, some non-toxic paint would be brilliant for snow-writing in Monument Square 'cuz there's usually a flat diagonal surface perfect for that sort of thing. (It was utilized with banners during the recent Palestine event in October). And sure enough, there is non-toxic spray paint out there! I will be switching over to that for my future "artistic" endeavors (which may or may not involve snow -- climate change and spring and all...)

I was at a protest of one today in #PortlandMaine (not the first time). Unfortunately, I wasn't there on #January20 because I was getting over being sick, but there was a great turnout that day.

And it seems #AugustaMaine had a decent turnout today as well, so that's good.

But even though I was there by myself, most folks who saw me were supportive, a few thanked me, and only one #MAGA-type said that my protest was "Bullshit!" To which I replied, "You'll find out soon enough."

I don't mind being a protest of one, but next time, I plan on bringing some pepper spray just in case, and some cash for unhoused folks - who were way more supportive than some of the well-off passerbys.

It’s evident that Democrats in Congress are unwilling to take any legally viable action, yet they haven’t. Will the courts even be effective since Trump has packed them? Large-scale nationwide protests, coupled with digital actions and financial boycotts, are the most effective tools we have. #uspol

Doing my civic duty today with a couple thousand other Arizonans.

The crowd is fired up, but restrained. Plenty of cops on site and at intersections, but they’re just watching and seem bored. I spoke with one and had that confirmed.

There are two drones in the air, one hovering over the House, the other over the Senate. They pan back and forth.

No counter protestors yet. But the day is young.

"Roughly 300 people gathered in front of the old Florida Capitol in #TallahasseeFlorida Wednesday afternoon to protest the Trump administration, including the president’s actions against #immigrants and #transgender people.

"The protest, which went on for hours under the sun, was part of a nationwide movement that started online calling for 50 protests in 50 states on one day under the hashtag #50501.

"'We need to be loud,' Madalyn Propst, a lead organizer of the protest with the climate activism group #SunriseTallahassee, told the growing crowd as the protest began. She told the Florida Phoenix that organizing the event, which drew people from other parts of the state, had required a quick turnaround.

"Protesters held signs bashing President Donald Trump and #ElonMusk, plus #Project2025, which is the #HeritageFoundation’s strategy for the administration. Other signs called for the protection of #immigrants, #LGBTQ people, #ReproductiveRights, and the #Environment."

Hundreds of people rallied in front of the State House on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 as part of the national movement to protest the #Project2025.

"Protesters have taken issue with several recent actions by Trump and his administration and are urging federal workers not to comply with the president’s incentive to resign.

"The national movement — 50 States, 50 Protests, 1 Day — has gained traction on social media. It seeks to fight #fascism and support #HumanRights through protests at every state capitol building.

"Graham Baker of East Wakefield expressed frustration with what he called an overreach by the Trump administration, especially in regards to access to federal payment systems granted to #ElonMusk. ;I’m just shocked at … how it’s been done by an unelected oligarch with a couple handful of minions who are all up there, taking personnel records, going through them specifically looking for a purity purge. This is all the stuff which is outlined in Project 2025.'

PROVIDENCE – "Several hundred anti-President Donald Trump demonstrators, responding to an online call for protests at the capitals in all 50 states at noon on Wednesday, marched around the Rhode Island State House chanting 'Hey hey, ho, ho, Elon Musk has got to go.'

"Similar chants went up at other rallies on Wednesday, including New York where protestors chanted '#DeportElon!' and Georgia, where protesters carried signs with messages like '#StopMusksSteal' and '#NoKingsInTheUSA.'"

One protestor said:
"They hate the Black people. They hate the Mexican people. They hate trans people. They hate women. They hate everything that is not white male and Republican. This is a country of people. We are all different. Thank God," she said, urging the crowd to "keep the pressure on ... get involved with a local organization."

"I know that we're all overwhelmed," she said. "They want you to pay attention to the breaking news because they know that it incapacitates you. It gets you worried. It gets you silent and that is not acceptable at this time. This is our country."
