📢 Fate of of nine of PRCS's medical personnel in #rafah remains unknown

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Thursday expressed its deep concern for the safety of its nine crew members who have been besieged by the ISR forces in the city of Rafah, south of the #gaza strip, for five days.

The PRCS called on the international community to intervene immediately and urgently to allow #rescue crews to reach the Tal al-Sultan area.

This is Lilla mää. Translates maybe as Little baa? She is one of our three sheep girls living here. She is teaching kids about kindness towards everything living and has a very high pitch voice.. 💚😱 She was hand fed as a baby so she really connects with people. She is such a charmer, and does alot of tricks. Her friends are Tåffslan and Viffslan. This spring we are doing a big open event for kids learning about animals and their emotions. (And maybe our own emotions) Scary but exciting. Today I had a new garden group at the community centre for seniors. We are creating a new garden that will be easier to be in when you're in a wheelchair. I'm so happy for this opportunity to learn and share. Volunteering is amazing you meet people you never would elsewhere. When I started to look for kindness I started to see it everywhere. And god knows that it is important at the moment. #rescue #bekind #volunteer

Savannah, please help!

Supersweet cat needs a home. We have three here and cannot keep her, brought her in from the storm, she's enjoying the deck.

Please help save a beautiful soul. DM me. Updated pix. Will help with her relocation: free cat bed, free carrier, free starter food package.

CEASEFIRE 💗🐾😻

I'm extremely happy for the whole team at #Sulala #Animal #Rescue in #Gaza!!!!!

Good morning & Happy Caturday everyone.
May the weekend ahead be kind to you.
Hugs all round, & extra hugs for those who need/want them.
Meggie & Laurie send lots of luv & purrs to everyone.

Neither cat has been inclined to strike any pose (except sleeping) this week, so I have been digging in my photos folders to find Meggie playing with a feather, & Laurie taking over Meggie's favourite box.

And, because it's Caturday, here is my new mug which arrived yesterday. I love it!

A black cat is playing on the lawn with a white feather. She prefers to play on the 'stepping stone path' that leads through the garden.
A young black cat is sitting in a cardboard box that is really too small for him with his tail hanging over the back. It's his 'auntie's favourite' box, so he is determined to fit in there, although he can't lie down comfortably in it.
A mug of tea is on the kitchen worktop. It has a picture of a vase of sunflowers (in Van Gogh style), with a black cat behind, leaping in the air & about to pounce on the flowers.
Behind is the kitchen windowsill with two pots containing orchids on it, and two little plaster characters based on vegetables (a cauliflower & a green pepper) sitting on the edge of the windowsill with legs hanging down over the edge.

#Karstmas day 7

Sorry for the delay folks, today was quite busy with a callout with the K9 SAR team. Happy ending!

So this prompted me to write a bit about safety in caving today, in particular with vertical caves (pits). This is quite the famous pit in Alabama, it's on like every top 5 list to visit (best views, best hikes, best waterfalls, best cave...every clickbait list this cave is on). What is unique about it, is that there is a horizontal walk-in entrance as well, where you can get to this view. This is both good...and bad.

When I started caving many moons ago, this cave was privately owned. So only cavers knew about it, and got permission by directly asking to go. Now, it is owned by a cave conservancy, and is much more open to visitation, just requiring a permit which is free and easy to fill out online. This is good - it lets lots of people enjoy this amazing view you think you'd have to travel far away to see. This is also bad - despite having to check off many things when you get the permit, no one *actually reads*, and as a result...well.

See that nice round rock middle bottom? We all call that "The Pedestal". You can climb the rock down to it, the slippery wet rock over a 40+ foot drop. You aren't supposed to free-climb here, but *everyone* does for their Instagram photo.

I'll make this simple: Never be closer than 6 feet (2 meters) from an edge without being tied in to a safety line. If the edge is sloped to the drop-off, that edge starts at the *top of the slope* where if you fell, you could keep rolling. Great rule of thumb for any edge, whether cliff or cave.

In this case, once you are on the Pedestal, you're okay on a section of it. But if you are climbing the rock up to the right, or wanting to go further down, you need to be tied in. People also like to stand at the pit entrance and lean over to look - there's a small tree on the steep slope they hold onto to do so. Yikes!

Guess who has personally been on the team, not once, but TWICE, that has bagged & pulled bodies out of this pit? Yeah. Coroners do not rappel into caves, cave rescue takes the body bag in, documents & photographs, and pull it back out. So, be safe please, around edges. Don't turn yourself into chunky jelly.

It's not worth the photo.

Now this place has a bunch of signs, but, people do stupid shit they aren't supposed to anyway. So I don't go anymore. Not because of the bodies - I have medical background and am not phased doing that stuff - but because I don't want to *watch* people be stupid. It gives me too much anxiety, and ruins my day. Shame, as it really is gorgeous and it used to be an annual summer trip.

So. Be smart. Be safe. Pick living to see more wonderful things over a single moment's photo.

A massive cave chamber with clearly an opening in the ceiling letting in both light, and a massive waterfall. The rock is steep and stepwise, some of it covered in moss. Center lower middle is a very round rock that looks like a nice pedestal. A lone dark figure rappels into the cave, providing scale, near the top where the light is.

"As you might expect, all kinds of "clarifications" started to be issued by Norway . And those may have some credence to them. But here is the text by Medvedev, which is generally correct, situation with Ursa Major crew rescue notwithstanding.

I cannot think of *anyone* more deserving than Saeed in this competition. Having been dedicated to #Gaza animals for two decades, he and his family also swore to be the last ones to ever leave Gaza so they can stay to help all animals. Hero would be an understatement ❤️

You can help by voting for #Sulala #Animal #Rescue's wonderful founder and director, Saeed Al Err, in the Worldwide Vets Golden Star Competition ❤️
