Für #selfhosted Projekte, greife man zu einem Skript, das, sobald der SSH Zugang für Zeit X nicht genutzt wurde, eine Mail an einen selbst schickt. Antwortet man auf diese nicht binnen Zeit Y, geht eine vorbereitete Nachricht an den Betreiber des VPS raus, was er bitte tun soll.
Bei lokalen Projekten wie einem NAS können Hinterbliebene die Datenträger physisch zerstören.

The thing about blogs: If it looks modern with a short URL and has tons of cookie popups and self-promo, stay away. If it looks like a plain HTML page with some basic CSS, found at a long URL at the bottom of your search result, it's probably trustworthy and written by a passionate self-hosting human being.

Basically, the more it looks like https://motherfuckingwebsite.com, the higher the quality of the material you're about to read.

Having lots of fun using Delta Chat. I've set up two accounts on my mail server, one for myself and one for my husband. We're both surprised at how fast it is compared to more traditional centralised chat apps like Signal. It's so cool to be able to self-host this and not rely on centralised infrastructure that is outside of my control.

Now I just need to convince everyone I know it's really cool :)

Notizen zum Dokument können in Markdown hinzugefügt werden.

Allerdings keine Volltextsuche.

Einfache Installation via Docker, gute mobile Ansicht. Raspberry Pi genügt.

The events of the past weeks have again upped the urgency of moving away from the US tech cloud. After forever Google and 18 years GitHub this is hard for me.

I am lucky that @distribits gave me the enthusiasm and the tools to make this happen for me and the #infrastructure of the #research group I am heading.

I was never an avid #Twitter user, so "switching" to #Mastodon during the #eXit movement was quite easy (my last tweet was from mid 2020, and there where only 12 answers to other posts form 2020 till my switch to here in 2022).

However, getting rid of the #Meta services feels more difficult. Non the less, I made that cut now, as well, and am quite proud of myself for it.

On the way, I found a service that is not part of the #fediverse but as a #opensource product with #selfhosting capability at least in the close vincinity;

@linkstack is a replacement for the proprietary and profit-oriented LinkTree. You can run a #selfhosted instance of it, or choose from one of the nearly 20 different public instances listed at their website. I'm loving it, so far - and especially now, while switching away from all my proprietary social networks it is a great help to poiting people with one single link, to where they can find you in future.

Plus - as many other (proprietary) services do not yet support links to mastodon, pixelfed, and others ( #LinkStack btw *does*!), but all of them usually have a homepage field, this is the one URL that will help you out in these instances.

If I want to set a sort of #selfhosted #pixelfed server, first for some friends and me but with an aim to grow it, do I set it up in a box at home? (I have half a gbps speed), or am I better off getting some hosting provider? It'll be of a bit of an adult nature (fetish/kink oriented), so hosting providers would have to be chosen carefully
