I wondered how long it would take before the warnings against the Chinese state started to appear, in relation to #DeepSeek (see article in the Guardian, from an Oxford professor). I guess it's perfectly OK to give your data to neo-fascist sociopathic multi-billionaires and the largest military-industrial complex on the planet, but not the Chinese.

Going slightly too far down the rabbit hole, you could argue that the Chinese state has done more to lift its population out of poverty over the past half century than any other country. OK, there have been notable human rights violations over the years, but how many people in the USA have been shot, or died from drugs or unaffordable healthcare, or from interfering in other peoples' wars?

Still, I suppose it's good to have an enemy. George Orwell would approve.

Also ich spiele hier mit dem lokalen #deepseek r1 rum und schon mit dem 14B Modell, das in 16GB Arbeitsspeicher passt, lässt sich sinnvoll arbeiten.

In unter 10 Sekunden gibt der mir Antworten und ruft sogar Funktionen auf, mit #ollama bekommt man sogar OpenAI kompatible API Endpunkte.

Allerdings geht da mit Funktionen und allem drum und dran doch öfter mal was schief, keine Ahnung wie es mit den großen 38B Modellen ist.. Bin aber versucht mir nen Mac Mini M4 mit 64GB RAM zu besorgen 😅

As an excellent programmer once noted: constraints induce creativity and focused design. Delta Chat has been running against classic e-mail provider constraints for years and had to evolve its code to work against these constraints (rate limits, spam filters, signups, delays etc) and thus we were uniquely positioned to create a minimal #chatmail server template that beats Gmail, Outlook, iCloud etc regarding security, performance and efficiency.
