November Sunset
Cento, Italy

23/11/2012

(There's a story behind this photo. I was walking alone, attempting to unwind after a particularly rough day. Behind me was the local cemetery (the road leading to it).
I noticed this light and grabbed my Galaxy Nexus. Although the phone had a subpar camera, this time, with some minor color adjustments, it produced a surprisingly good result.)

The photo shows a tree-lined path during autumn. The trees have dense foliage in shades of yellow and green, suggesting early autumn. A carpet of fallen leaves covers the path, which is centered in the photo and stretches into the distance where the setting or rising sun casts a warm glow. The sky is not visible, and there are no people or animals seen. The overall ambiance is serene and picturesque, typical of an autumnal scene.

A twee but heartfelt leafy hug to all who want it on a Monday morning in a week that might be A WEEK.

A photo of two autumnal leaves, grown from a single stem, dappled in sunlight. The one on the left is in focus, the one on the right, slightly further away, is slightly blurred. In the background are more leaves, very blurred, with hints of sky beyond. The two leaves have faces drawn on, with cute wee smiles, and they each have one arm around the other.

Even the smallest leaves can burn brightly in the #autumn. The well-known #Prunus Kojo No Mai is much lauded as a dwarf ornamental cherry. However, it's not a dwarf at all. Trimmed to one single leader, your diminutive cherry can make a nice tall statement within a few years. I bought one 4 years ago, and it is already 5 and half feet tall.

Of course, you can shape it into balls, pyramids, and aubergines if you like, but I feel that this plant deserves to show off and sparkle at eye level.
Glowing orange red serrated leaf of Prunus incision Kojo No Mai, or the Japanese Fuji Cherry. Exhibiting a unique zig zag growth habit of its branches, this wonderful shrub has a gnarled and aged look even when small. The small toothed leaves turn all sorts of red, orange, pink and plum purple every autumn, providing a second show of the year prior to the winter. The books say that eventual heights are roughly 8 feet in 20 years, but I have seen them grown together as arches and fanned out against sunny walls. Let your imagination inspire you.

A relative had a large walnut tree at his dacha, but we had to cut it down because it was getting in the way.
It was a pity, the nuts on it were very tasty.

Loch Shiel at Glenfinnan in the Western Scottish Highlands and another example of being in the right place at the right time to catch a burst of autumnal sunshine, highlighting the colours of the season. Sometimes, luck is on your side!

The Chikanishing River, Killarney Provincial Park Ontario Canada presented a beautiful fall scene with the colorful foliage, stunning reflections, and white water as it flowed over the river rocks. It was a great place to just sit, relax and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Title: Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine, Kamakura (1953)

Artist: Kasamatsu Shiro

A view of the grounds of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu on a bright autumn day. A pair of miko in customary red and white cross the courtyard at the base of the Great Stone Steps. To our left, the leaves of a tall, robust tree have gone yellow and orange with the turning season; to our right, another tree is still green. Visitors to the shrine climb and descend the steps; above them, at the top of the steps, the multi-story red-painted Main Shrine stands tall. Above the shrine, birds fly in a clear blue sky

Welcome to Mumbles, near Swansea.

Mumbles is a headland on the Gower Peninsula, right on the southern coast of Wales. It very much like the last burst of summer, even in October. ☀️
