generell kann ich die Misskey Familie empfehlen, egal ob Sharkey, IceShrimp oder Misskey usw.
Ich selber nutze Calckey und habe 7.500 zeichen zur verfügung und noichc jede Menge mehr Funktionen, wovon Masto nur träumt.
Was das Thema RAICHWEITE angeht, da bist du selber deines Glückes Schmied.
Zum einen ist die hier im #Fediverse nicht Software abhängig. Also egal ob du Masto, Shrakey, Friendica, Pixelfed usw. verwendest, es ist alles das selbe Netzwerk, nur für dich sieht es anders aus.
Und dann kommt Regel 1 zum tragen, das Fediverse ist so aktiv zu dir, wie du zu ihm. Bist du nicht aktive und kommunikativ, ist es das Fediverse (sprich die user) nicht zu dir.
Mehr gibt es eigentlich dazu nicht zu sagen.
Folge Leuten und tausche dich mit ihnen aus, dann kommen die Antworten und mit denen lernst du neue Leute kennen usw.
Schau dir an, was du von der Software willst und suche dir dazu die passende Instanz aus.
