In my contacts on FB¹ there is now a serious move toward other platforms. The movement is akin to people leaving the birdsite when the apartheid oligarch bought it.

Unfortunately, many seem to opt for BlueSky. (I always recommend the #Fediverse, but something in the BS UI is perceived easier.)

I haven't paid attention to #BlueSky. It's apparently #opensource and can apparently be bridged over to here. But there is something in it that I don't trust. Or like, some red flags of possible enshitification and oligarch takeover sometimes down the line. But this is just me being suspicious.

Has anyone here anyone here actual info on it? Not planning to move there, but interested in what's up with it and would lile to know what the fedi thinks of it. Especially from a security and #democracy perspective.

I want to expand the contents of my feed with more LGBTQ+-diverse authors. Can anyone recommend some good blogs - not necessarily about queer topics, but from queer sources talking about life, their interests, whatever. Preferably with an available Atom/RSS feed 🙏

I follow mostly programming and retrocomputing blogs/feeds right now. But I'd like to support more queer voices, even if it's just by listening to what they have to say.

#AskFedi I wish to improve the search results / discoverability of interesting content for my self-hosted #Pixelfed instance.

I set it up earlier this week via #YunoHost and I'm having issues finding content when I look up hashtags.

As a photographer, I wanted to actively look for photos tagged with camera brand names (Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm) but so far I'm finding very few results (see screenshot). I wonder if you have any recommendations as to how to tweak my settings? Thanks in advance! ✨

Does anybody know a tutorial for debugging a crash in your desktop environment on Linux? I am mostly interested as an exercise in actually using the “source” part of open source. Like I imagine it requires:
1) identifying the exact DE version being run
2) fetching the source of that DE version from somewhere and building it in debug configuration
3) running that DE with a debugger attached then triggering the crash

The DE aspect makes it weird, like I would have to run it in a VM maybe so the crash doesn’t take down whatever program I’m using to run the debugger too.

I have found Plume, which looks nicest and has quite a few instances available. but is currently not developed very actively.

There is also WriteFreely, which is similar but lacks in public instances.
