It's clearer every day the difference between actual progressive governments and the formerly-progressive now-regressive Australian #Labor Party. The ALP is really starting to suck.

From the article: "WASHINGTON, April 27, 2023 – Americans aren’t very nice to each other anymore and they blame social media and the media generally.

"That’s the consensus in a new American Bar Association survey. The 2023 ABA Survey of Civic Literacy asked who is to blame for the nation’s growing incivility, what issues they’d be willing to compromise on and how much they know about how American government works."

Being a CEO is hard. Especially when the ever ravenous media is looking for some click bait at your expense.

Channel.org is a chance for organisations to not only own their online presence, but to reconnect with their community.

Open social media offers the opportunity to make use of a network of social media platforms, used by millions across the globe.

But, the organisations that would benefit most are missing. Even though the space is growing rapidly thanks - in part - to the social activists who fill it!

It's time to change that.

"Open social media offers a chance to escape the cycle of good product turns bad product and wiping the slate clean to start again. Instead, open social media offers the chance to build in a space where you can easily hop-skip-jump to the next best platform without losing your community."

Check out what @saskia had to say about Bluesky continuing to grow.

If you don't like the algorithm, turn it off and back on again.

What is Channel.org?

Channel.org is our new membership service designed to help organisations join New Social - open networks of interconnected platforms where orgs can own their space.

We know that this space aligns with many for-good orgs morally, now we need to show them that the people here can support their mission just as well as on any Big Tech platform.

If you want to know more, please check out the website or get in touch!

'"Across all five social media sites, two-thirds of news influencers (63%) are men. The percentage of male news influencers was highest on Facebook (67%) and YouTube (68%) and the gender gap was smallest on TikTok — where 50% of news influencers are men."

Channel.org is a service for organisations, built to help them own their social media presence.

It's still early days, but we're calling on people who work for, or have connections to, for-good organisations. We want you to spread a little decentralised chaos and push for your org on decentralised social media.

If you think you can help, please, get in touch!

“A parliamentary committee examining the impact of #SocialMedia on #Australian society has recommended users be given the power to alter, reset or turn off #algorithms, as well as be provided with greater #privacy protections but has stopped short of recommending a #ban on under-16s accessing social media.”

“#AnthonyAlbanese and his communications minister, #MichelleRowland, did not rule out the potential for #socialmedia users to have their faces subject to #biometric #scanning, for #online platforms to verify users’ ages using a government #database, or for all social media users – ‘regardless of age’ – being subject to age checks, only saying it would be up to #tech companies to set their own processes.”

I remind myself, Australian governments can’t computer.

''“So, this isn't just about privacy or collecting data about kids,” said [Senator David] Shoebridge.

“This is literally everybody accessing social media, that's how it has to work, isn't it?”

“Yes,” replied Andrew Irwin, assistant secretary of online safety at [the Department of Communications].'

Odd that niche new media is carrying such an important story like the Australian government flagging putting the entire population onto internet verification checks, while old media is crickets.

Unless a) there's an inherent bias, b) they don't understand it or c) both.

Appears banning children is just a smokescreen, Senate committee uncovers Communications Dept plans to force every Australian onto digital ID to access commercial social media.

That's kind of hilarious. And annoying they'd even try.

"Amid the devastation in #Gaza, #Israel’s escalating media censorship, suppression of dissent, and targeting of journalists are deliberate efforts to block global access to information, the Committee found. It also noted how #socialMedia companies disproportionately removed “pro-Palestinian content” in comparison with posts inciting violence against Palestinians."

Asian Australians including Penny Wong say 'bamboo ceiling' has been a barrier to success
By Angelica Silva and Iris Zhao

Even in 2024, there is still a "bamboo ceiling" in Australia. It's an issue that hit home for many at this year's Asian-Australian Leadership Awards, including Foreign Minister Penny Wong.
