On the night of January 13th, a citibank in Cupertino, CA was vandalized. The bank was spray-painted with pro-Palestine messages, windows were broken, and jars of paint and oil were thrown inside. This action was taken following dozens of actions across the country targeting citibank for its role in funding and profiting from genocide in Gaza and ongoing colonial exploitation of Haiti. Citibank first built its riches through the exploitation of Haiti, funneling wealth from the newly independent nation and facilitating the 1915 american military invasion and occupation. Today, citibank continues to profit from war and colonial expansion. The firm is the largest american bank operating in “israel” and its investments fuel both the continued settler invasion of occupied Palestine and the zionist entity’s genocidal assault of Gaza. We welcome the news of the ceasefire in Gaza as a victory of the Palestinian resistance and a respite for the people of Gaza who have been abandoned and betrayed by the world. But, the zionist project of ethnically cleansing all of Palestine continues, as does citibank’s complicity. "Police received a call reporting a group vandalizing the robotaxi near La Cienega Boulevard and West 3rd Street around 4 a.m., said J. Chavez, public information officer with the Los Angeles Police Department. Officers took a vandalism report, he said.

The fire at the Vistra lithium battery factory in Moss Landing, Monterey County, California may be the largest ever battery fire anywhere in the world. Lithium fires burn at 2000 F and cannot be easily put out. Lithium does not burn through combustion, as carbon-containing fuels do. Trying to douse them with water only exacerbates the fire and can lead to explosions. And the lithium salts in the batteries are self-oxidizing, which makes them prone to reignite. Lithium fires can produce a variety of toxic gasses, such as Hydrofluoric acid, Hydrogen cyanide, Hydrogen chloride, and Sulfur dioxide.
Residents living as far as 20 miles away have been experiencing metallic tastes in their mouths, burning eyes, burning throats, and yellow residues all over their things. The fire’s been going for six days and only now has Governor Newsom decided to launch an investigation. Vistra makes batteries for Tesla. This was the fourth fire at the site since 2019.

"The devastating fires in Los Angeles have killed 24 people. The fires have burned tens of thousands of acres, and hundreds of thousands of #Angelenos have been forced to evacuate. The blaze has destroyed at least 12,000 structures and thousands of people have nowhere to live.
"For most people, this is a horrific tragedy. But numerous landlords in the area are treating it as a #MoneyMaking opportunity.
"A review of rental listings revealed dozens of properties where the landlords have sharply increased their prices since the fires began on January 7. Popular Information used Zillow to identify rental homes in communities near the areas impacted by the fires — including #PacificPalisades, #SantaMonica, #ManhattanBeach, #HuntingtonBeach, and the #SanFernandoValley — that have increased their asking price over the last week.
"While not every rent increase is evidence of #exploitation, the timing and scale of many increases strongly suggest #PriceGouging is occurring.
"In Manhattan Beach, for example, Popular Information identified a five-bedroom home listed on December 31, 2024, for $8,750 per month. By Monday, the rent was bumped up 125 percent to $19,750 monthly.
"But it is not only luxury properties with ocean views whose prices have skyrocketed in the last week.
"A three-bedroom home in #Tujunga, listed for $4,100 on December 28, was increased to $8,500 on January 7, the day the Pacific Palisades fire broke out, 93 percent higher than its initial listing price."
