🧶🧶🧶 Swatching! Why?

For my elderly roommate here at the nursing home, who spends most of her time curled up in a ball under blankets, isolated.

I offered to knit her slippers. These will be the Nordic Slippers, a simple pattern with lace detail at the ankle. Yellow is her fave color, and I sourced this gorgeous yarn in stash. No band, but it feels like wool - very expensive wool! Deserving!

Figured out how to at least make this less work:

-my new set of interchangeables comes with two types of cables and I hadn't even tried out the other ones to realize THAT cable is thicker, which ironically means LESS work at smaller size needles.

-figured out a different way of adjusting the right needle that isn't how I learned magic loop but is MUCH less effort. Did I learn it wrong or just discover a hack? Who knows, but either way, score!

Magic loop is cool and all, but I wish there were a way to do it without having to constantly shove stitches back onto the needle. #knitting

I am proud to share my latest knitting pattern: fingerless gloves with a star pattern. They are knitted flat with an intarsia pattern using a short row construction. The knitting pattern is available via Ravelry and Payhip.

Any knitters who know Braille...I assume when knitting Braille it's best to use Grade 1 for sighted kids?
Also, need to figure out how I can make things the exact same length and have similar messages even though the kids have different names, which is going to affect message length. Ugh... But I am up to the challenge.

A KnitPicks order arrived yesterday, so I cast on a couple new projects. A cowl, a washcloth, and a "soap sock".

Knit the soap sock (first two pics) in a single night, which was nice! Even though I made many mistakes and it was really just kind of bodged together. Still, it'll get the job done! It's just going to hang out in my shower, it doesn't have to be perfect. ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

The third pic is the washcloth in the same yarn, KP's Dishie 100% cotton in Goldfish. I'm liking how the colours are pooling in a kind of chevron pattern across the cloth! ^^

No pictures of the cowl yet, I might try redoing it… using two gradient-coloured yarns in stripes, but they both start at white, so you can't see any difference in the stripes, yet. x___x I might try unravelling and re-wrapping a ball to get the gradient switched around and knit it that way, just so I can see the differences.

A photo of a finished knitted "soap sock", a knitted "mitt" or pouch meant to hold a bar of soap. The yarn is a bright orange-white mottled colour, and it's got a bubbly knitted texture to it.
The same "soap sock", but from the back, which is simple seed stitch. There's also a small i-cord loop knitted onto it so it can be hung on a hook.
An in-progress knitted washcloth still on the circular needles, in the same orange-white cotton yarn. It's a simple pattern, a bit of a basket-weave done with knits and pearls with a seed stitch border. Only about 2-inches of it is knitted so far.

Emergency call out to knitters everywhere. It's getting cold, and we need to protect our mushie friends from the morning frost. To action!

A photo of two light brown mushrooms growing in a mossy frosty lawn. They are both wearing knitted hats (the one on the left a white one with a bobble, the one on the right a blue and white stripey one). They both have faces drawn on and are smiling. Well, they would, wouldn't they? Someone has knitted them lovely hats!

Wow, does this make me feel the passage of time! When orcas wore dead fish hats, many years ago we knitters made Dead Fish Hats. Well, that trend has come back for orcas. Should we make the hats again? https://www.livescience.com/animals/orcas/orcas-start-wearing-dead-salmon-hats-again-after-ditching-the-trend-for-37-years #knitting #deadfishhat #orca trend

Almost done, finished blocking and just needs a button and weave in the ends. Now if I could just find the right size needle for the button! #knitting #FOYAL #FOYAL2024

Woo! This throw is coming along nicely. On row 24 of a hundred and some. Hey, I'll take it. It's not like this one is on a deadline. #knitting

If you were writing a book of knitting patterns, and the patterns were all for yoke-style sweaters, the perfect title doesn't exi-

I got to virtually play Pirate Borg for the first time today, and I finished the main body section of my Barndance sweater while the game was going on. Now, I’m just working on the quick bottom body motif before I pick up for sleeves. My gauge perfectly matches that of the pattern in plain and colorwork stockinette, so I’m very proud of my tensioning here. It’s going to look even prettier post-blocking. #knitting

...Michelle can also be found on her website, MakerTube.net. Lots of great knitting and other crafted content in well-edited videos in both places.

@ConsumableJoy I sure hope you are taking a big bow for what you've created with #FinishOrFrogAlong. Bravo!! 👏👏👏👏👏

Another delicious batt carded up this evening! It’s raining and gets dark so quickly these days, so I don’t have any photos yet with natural lighting (so not listed for sale yet) but look at this Merino, South American wool, and bamboo 4-oz mega batt! This would make the most bouncy & soft yarn!🧶 #fiberarts #MastoArt #knitting #crochet

I have been told that it is customary to do an #introduction post, so here I go.

I love #cats, have 2; #squid (arsehole) and #newton (fatso).

#music is important to me and I have something playing most of the time.

#sewing and #knitting are my hobbies as well as #gardening. I sound like an old woman! Oh wait I am!!

Love #books have way too many. Too many on #baking and #crafts

Oh I talk too much and laugh way too loud - might also find me dancing in the aisle of my local supermarket.

xx

Trip out to #Whitby today! I've lived near here most of my life but only just read Dracula for the first time so there may have been a minor amount of infodumping at Other Half about places that were important in the book, bless him.

Got a little car #knitting done, bloomed many Big Flowers for the pikmin, and found a sculpture of a lady knitting a gansey so there was a small amount of infodumping there too 😅

Not pictured are all the sweets we bought, which I will be making a start on just as soon as I've warmed back up.

A lovely day out, which will now be ruined because we play each other in #FantasyFootball tonight 🙃
The ruins of Whitby Abbey
View of Whitby from the graveyard at St. Mary's Church, one of the major landmarks in Bram Stoker's Dracula. Photo is taken from near the grassy cliff edge, looking down over nearby houses to the harbour below. Across the water is the other side of the harbour with pleasingly old classy buildings at the top of the cliffs and some very tacky shops and arcades along the bottom.
Holding up a navy blue stockinette knitting project in front of the car window. It looks like a grey and featureless day outside.
A sculpture of a woman sitting on a bench. She's wearing what looks like a long, old-fashioned high-collared dress, and is knitting a gansey sweater. The whole thing seems to be made out of some kind of dense jumbled wire. Beside her is a sign titled "walk with heritage" with more information about ganseys.

#Crafters !

I'm in the market for some nice long #crochet or #knitting #HandWarmers / #ArmWarmers - do you make/sell something like this?

Hit me up, I'd love to buy them from someone on the Fediverse rather than etsy/ebaying them.

Colourful patterns preferred. Boosts appreciated. Thank you!!

It's HERE and I am VERY EXCITED to receive my two shades of what many people consider to be the most boring colour in the world!

Wanted to get them on a fairly neutral surface for accurate colours. Ignore the cable management 😅

Edit: I do know how to spell, honest.

#Yarn #Knitting #IceYarns
Eight balls of yarn in two similar but different shades of navy blue. They're arranged in two rows of four, alternating between lighter and darker balls. The labels read "Ice Yarns".

They're lying on a neutral coloured chair seat but you can see all the cables on our floor at either side!

Well... I'm starting to remember why I moved over to crochet. How is it I cast on 20 stitches and then have 23 the next row, 21 the following and 22 on the third!

Still, I'm not going to give up quite yet. Maybe Friday will be Q and allow me to do some research and practice.

Anyway, I'm off to bed. Nightol!

I finished some fair isle socks! I enjoyed knitting these, but definitely regretted choosing such low-contrast colours 🙈

The motifs are from the book 200 Fair Isle Designs by Mary Jane Mucklestone, and the yarn is West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4 Ply in Butterscotch and Marshmallow.

A side view of a pair of yellow and white knitted socks, with repeating bands of stranded colourwork. The motifs are a mixture of diamonds, X's, and snowflakes. The sole of the socks is a basic checkerboard pattern.

Good day, fedi, do any of you have recs for a pattern for a crocheted or knitted sea otter? With all the LLM spam patterns, I want to get one that I know will be (ahem) a real pattern. Preferably something you know has been made, or from a pattern maker you know is an actual person 😬 I'm better at crochet than knitting, but will look at either or both, I want to find the best one I can! Thank you! :artotter: #knitting #crochet #amigurumi #crafting
