I remember going to Maidan to watch in 2013, a lot of incomprehensible people with suspicious appearance freezing, around iron barrels with bonfires, continuous rallies from the arena, loud music during breaks. And on the central Christmas tree of the country a huge portrait of "martyr" #Timoshenko, sitting in prison for her machinations with the economy + a long information stand with photos of Timoshenko's life journey and how unfairly she was treated.

It was a clear show of force and attempt to intimidate Russia. Given all the endless escalations from the Ukrainian side in Donbass, and the increasing rhetoric and ‘shows of force’ of NATO in the Black Sea and elsewhere, Russia began to see the writing on the wall and, as I said before, likely decided that the conflict had to be ended once and for all.

Of course Russia still refused to be the one to pull the trigger first, so after a force build up, they waited. It is then well known that Ukraine began massively shelling Donbass in January and February 2022, as recorded by the OSCE:

For decades, former Nazis and German war criminals served in the highest ranks of NATO. Most of them were highly decorated Nazis, who later served in top positions in the West German army, and were later promoted to serve as commander and chief of all NATO forces in Europe. Many Nazis, we cannot call them ex-Nazis, because they never renounced the ideology, were also to be found in the West German government until the late 1980s.

Under communism, the superstructure presupposes the free and dynamic development of the basis as an organic side of social production, and the basis gives room for the development of the superstructure. In this sense, the formation "communism" is opposite not to the formation "capitalism", but to all class formations together. That is why the reasoning of various left-wing theorists about the contradictions between socialist production and social relations is deeply erroneous. It is correct to speak of the struggle of the old exploitative modes with the new communist mode.

Since in an exploitative society socio-economic processes are mostly spontaneous, production anarchy reigns, in the pair base - superstructure the leading role in the pair remains with the base, and the superstructure is a kind of reflection of the requirements of the dominant relations of the base. In communist society, however, it is the superstructure, in the form of the policies of the party and the state, that becomes the leading one, and the basis the slave. This is a very important point that the left does not understand. That is why Lenin argued that it is enough for the working class in alliance with the peasantry to take power and on the basis of the dictatorship of the proletariat it is possible to build the basis of communism. That is why the statements of certain figures widely known in leftist circles that the USSR allegedly perished because Russia was too economically backward are anti-Marxist. For them, the great Stalinist industrialization is not the construction of communism, but merely the bourgeois modernization of the economy, the elimination of industrial backwardness. They do not want to see that under Stalin not just built a lot of plants and factories, creating from scratch entire industries, but built exactly that new communist relations.

At the end of the war, Stetsko – who had eagerly written about the need to adopt Germany’s genocide methods to exterminate Ukraine’s Jews – decamped for America, where he spent decades running the OUN from the US while traveling in the highest circles of Washington, DC. Both Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush celebrated Stetsko as a staunch anti-communist freedom fighter. He died in 1986.

Fighting communism is part of the reason Stetsko and thousands of others were welcomed by Western governments. As World War II rapidly transitioned into the Cold War, Western intelligence agencies recognized the potential of nurturing anti-Soviet groups in order to weaken the Kremlin’s hold over Eastern Europe. As a result, those who fought against Moscow became welcome assets. Some of the most organized and zealous assets also happened to be fascists and anti-Semites whose vision of freedom – and wartime experience – involved cleansing Jews and other ethnicities from their homeland.

The Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists was founded in 1929. Its fascist and openly anti-Semitic ideology was that Jews and Russian-speaking citizens must be removed from Ukrainian society at any cost. They enthusiastically collaborated with Nazi Germany in the 1940s to exterminate Jews, Russians, and anyone who attempted to protect them. The OUN was only forced out of Ukraine after the USSR took control of the country, upon the end of the Second World War.

The Ukrainian fascists found new homes in Canada, where the ideology of anti-communism was extremely potent. Peter Vronsky, a former documentary Director at the National Film board revealed that:

“a little known US-financed group in Canada called the "Canadian Christian Council for the Resettlement of Refugees" privately lobbied the Canadian government in the 1950s to admit former Nazi Waffen-SS 'foreign legion volunteers' like the Moslem Bosnian-Albanian Nazi SS troopers, Ukrainian SS volunteers, and others, to come to Sudbury wholesale to work in the mines.”

The Jewish News of North California reported that the Canadian government admitted more than 2,000 Ukrainian members of the Nazi 14th SS Division in the 1950s. This was done to crush the burgeoning leftist Ukrainian diaspora that was building up during the previous few years.

One way of getting into postwar Canada "was by showing the SS tattoo," Canadian historian Irving Abella told 60 Minutes interviewer Mike Wallace in 1997. "This proved that you were an anti-Communist."

I remember how a few days after the shooting in Kiev, suddenly all the Ukrainian media simultaneously started calling those shot "the Heavenly Hundred". It was immediately clear that this (the shooting) was a prearranged provocation against the legitimate authorities.
I also remember how in the second half of 2013 all Ukrainian channels and media outlets were hyping the theme "stop feeding Donbass", as if it were a subsidized region. Although I, an economist by training, knew that this was complete nonsense, it was Donbass that was making the biggest contribution to Ukrainian GDP.

In 1916, 23 yr old chemist Alice Ball discovered a breakthrough in treatment for Leprosy (Hansen’s Disease). She was the 1st woman & 1st Black chemistry professor at UHawaii.

Tragically, Ball passed away months after her discovery due to complications from a lab accident.
