Offensichtlich kommen ja gerade wie viele #neuhier ins #Fediverse, deshalb hier mal meine Begrüßung: Herzlich Willkommen und viel Spaß hier!

Und nun noch ein paar Infos:


Wie ich das so mitbekomme kommen die Neuen diesmal nicht nur zu #Mastodon sondern auch zu #Pixelfed. Neben diesen beiden Plattformen gibt es aber noch unzählige andere Möglichkeiten im Fediverse unterwegs zu sein. Und das tolle ist, alle diese Plattformen sprechen mehr oder weniger gut miteinander. Wenn Ihr also auf Mastodon gelandet seid und ihr einem coolen Account auf Pixelfed folgen wollt müsst Ihr Euch nicht extra auf einer Pixelfed Instanz anmelden, sondern folgt dem Account einfach. Ach ja, es gibt sogar Plattformen wie #Friendica mit denen Ihr Eure Bluesky und Tumbler Timeline integrieren könnt (oder sogar eMails in die Timeline integrieren).

I’m fully aware that not everyone likes #Pixelfed and wishes there was an alternative.

Well, I got great news! Pixelfed is open source and you can fork it!

Almost all of the Fediverse has forks: Mastodon has forks and Misskey has forks. Hell, I’m using a fork right now: Akkoma, which is a fork of Pleroma.

If you want to build that Pixelfed alternative, it’s a fork away!

This past week I have heard the same question thrown around over and over again: "what's the point of setting up a #Pixelfed account if the software is interoperable with the rest of the Fediverse? Why not just post photos on Mastodon or Sharkey or __?"

Well, #Pixelfed allows you to have a beautiful, curated feed of your photos.

The #HOA of the Fediverse never changes!

Not only are they talking about defederating all #Pixelfed servers, but defederating anyone who talks about Pixelfed in a positive manner.

Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good. Whatever qualms you may have with Pixelfed, it is a vast improvement over #Instagram—which has moved moderation services over to Texas, and is therefore subject to laws over there.

In contrast, you can run a Pixelfed server wherever you like, in your own country if you choose, or at least in a place with demonstrable better laws than Texas.

But more than that, we don’t get to choose which Fediverse services prove to be popular. Folks from #TikTok and #Instagram are coming to Pixelfed, not #Mastodon, and we should be welcoming them with open arms.

The Fediverse is a network of thousands of independent servers, running lots of different kinds of software. Some of them are Mastodon servers, some of them are Pixelfed servers, some of them are PeerTube servers... there are dozens of different kinds!

But all of them are connected together into a single social network called the Fediverse. You don't need to be on the same server to follow and interact with someone, in fact you don't even need to be on the same type of server. People on Mastodon can interact with people on Pixelfed etc.

Since I started as a photographer, I have always loved silhouettes, the low light of the evening or morning. I love these atmospheres. During a recent trip to Finland, I had the immense privilege of meeting this mother bear just before nightfall. For me, it was such an unforgettable moment.

Depuis que j'ai commencé à photographier, j'ai toujours aimé les silhouettes, les lumières rasantes du soir ou du matin. Les contres et frisants. J'adore ces ambiances. Lors d'un récent voyage en Finlande, j'ai eu l'immense privilège de rencontrer cette maman ourse juste avant la tombée de la nuit. Pour moi, ce fut un moment inoubliable.

Current social media forecast for Friday, January 17th, 2025.

Strong legal headwinds are driving many users from #TikTok to #Instagram, Google shorts, and ironically, #RedNote, another Chinese app.

Meanwhile, increasingly regressive vibes from Meta's Zuck are driving many Instagram users to #Pixelfed

In turn, Pixelfed recently officially launched it's own mobile app.
