"The pair discussed Roberts’s book, in which he describes how 'many of America’s institutions […] need to be burned'. Included among those to be incinerated, Roberts writes, are the FBI and the New York Times, along with 'every Ivy League college', '80% of ‘Catholic’ higher education', and the Boy Scouts of America."

I've been a Guardian reader most of my adult life, and have been a subscriber to their online edition for several years too. I'm pleased to see they've bailed from Twitter, finally - "the US presidential election campaign served only to underline what we have considered for a long time: that X is a toxic media platform and that its owner, Elon Musk, has been able to use its influence to shape political discourse."

I also recommend former editor Alan Rusbridger's book about his time there and how they changed to embrace an online approach, "Breaking News"

Hey #journalist friends, and everyone interested in #news creation and #ethical reporting: this looks pretty rad

"The #Guardian has announced it will no longer post content on Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, from its official accounts."

Does The Guardian already have an official #Mastodon account?

Toxic media platform

The Guardian will no longer post on Twitter. It described the platform as promoting disturbing content including "far-right conspiracy theories and racism."

"We wanted to let readers know that we will no longer post on any official Guardian editorial accounts on the social media site X (formerly Twitter). We think that the benefits of being on X are now outweighed by the negatives and that resources could be better used promoting our journalism elsewhere."

As of today, I'm now supporting The Guardian on a monthly basis. I've read it for years and made a few donations but I'm so happy to see the media begin to recognize that it should not be feeding a platform that is now an active measures service engaged in information warfare against the U.S.

Well done to the team at The Guardian for standing up against X.

Their statement: "The US presidential election campaign served only to underline what we have considered for a long time: that X is a toxic media platform and that its owner, Elon Musk, has been able to use its influence to shape political discourse."

We look forward to helping the wave of journalists and publications that will no doubt follow.

TaiwanPlus removed a video in which one of its reporters referred to president-elect Trump as a "convicted felon". TaiwanPlus is a government funded broadcaster under the Ministry of Culture but it is managed by Taiwan's Public Television Service (PTS)

#Eritrea is the only African country without privately owned media, having shut down its private press in 2001 under the pretext of "national security". There have been no elections in Eritrea since its independence, and President Isaias Afwerki has held power for nearly 31 years.

I really like this explanation of the changes @niemanlab's editor made in her news intake: cut out "reactions", shift to finite information flows (print but also online news before it is amplified). And RSS, of course:

"I’m rebuilding my RSS reader so at least I have to scan the headlines myself."

[DW: I would not support any Substack b/c they platform Nazis. I also avoid video & audio. I don't need the hype]

Beware when using articles of Haaretz

Their editors are still Zionists, and at several moments have published things where their own feelings were more important than the lives and self-determination of Palestinians.

They're focused on Israel, not on the self-determination of a free Palestine.

Also, their articles are approved by the military censorship (absolutely normal in the Only Bestests Democracy), so be aware there's always a layer of usefulness to the occupation in their criticism.

Have you noticed a pattern with Haaretz? Apart from plagiarising, a large bulk of their "investigations", and/or articles, only confirm what local Palestinian journalists and/or organisations have been reporting on for months on end. Then they essentially label it with an assumption/implication that they were the only outlet that conducted detailed investigations of war crimes in this ongoing genocide, for instance, therefore can only be considered as the the only 'credible' source.

BREAKING: Israeli outlet Haaretz has blatantly plagiarized my post about Sky News editing their video on the Amsterdam riots, lifting a number of sentences word-for-word and only slightly revising the rest.

A side-by-side analysis shows at least five paragraphs of the Haaretz

If someone claims their voting decision was driven by unhappiness over inflation, and they voted for the candidate who's proposing extremely inflationary policies (deporting migrant workers and imposing high tariffs), there are two possibilities:
1) They have been misinformed by the press about the ramifications of the candidates' proposed economic policies
2) They are lying about what drove their vote
