Just finished the novel I was reading by Dan Abnett and will read one by Dickens next. I have a rotation of: junky SF/fantasy/horror ⇝ Dickens ⇝ something literary ⇝ non-fiction going quite well. I’ve found that if I plan in too much detail beyond this “reading frame”, I get a bit demotivated. I still keep a list of books I want to read but it becomes such a productivity chore to try and work through in an organised fashion. (And I LOVE making lists!)

Asking for advice - I just gave another presentation yesterday where, as usual, I wanted to talk about far more than I had time for.

I'm thinking the solution to that would be a blog of some sort, where I could dump those ideas, hone them, maybe categorize them if I have the energy. It would be mostly text and pics, but the ability to post the odd video and allow for downloading of docs would be good.

No idea where to start. Ideally, I'd want a Canadian platform, and full ownership of my posts. No “we own everything you write” in the fine print.

I'm not interested in making money, but not opposed to paying a little to be on a good platform. But the posts have to be accessible to all.

I know* if I paid for hosting, I could take care of the rest. But it feels like overkill, with all the blogging platforms already out there. On the other hand, always nice to run things out of my own domain.

I don’t think many of the youth today could visualise a really distraction-free and advert-free piece of technology. Today notifications keep popping up, adverts clutter pages, as well as pop-up cookie notices.

I remember using a Palm Pilot myself, and I used to sync my notes, e-mails, etc with my desktop PC. A Palm Pilot was one of the really early productivity devices, being able to run all sorts of 3rd party downloadable apps. I remember, too, the early database apps, I think mine was called HandyDB.

This is PURE productivity at its best. Technically, with the Pebble watches making a comeback, there is no real reason why Palm Pilots could not also do so. Big Tech would of course hate this as they still want to sell newer flashier devices to you, that can pop up all sorts of messages and disclaimers.

And look at this: “Surprisingly, the 25-year-old rechargeable battery still works well, holding a charge for over a month.”

Reden wir über den Blogger-Vorgarten. Da ist eine Diskussion entstanden, an der ich auch meinen Anteil habe. Es geht um KI-Bilder in Blogs. Der / die / das Eine findet es ganz grauenvoll, andere finden es gut, und wieder andere wissen gar nicht, wieso es überhaupt diese Diskussion gibt. Und das ist das Irre an uns Bloggern.
