Paul, Weiss website entry for Chairman Brad S. Karp

Awesome!!! Keep it on!!!

"Democratic members of Congress, back home in their districts for the last week, have been encountering a level of anger and hostility that some see as reminiscent of the 2010 Tea Party wave.

Why it matters: The dynamic could spill over into 2026 primaries, lawmakers tell Axios, with the infuriated grassroots attempting to throw out House and Senate Democrats they see as unprepared to take on Trump.

"Any Democratic incumbent who thinks they can rest on their laurels and not show their constituents that they are fighting like hell is making a mistake," said Rep. Jared Huffman (D-Calif.).
A senior House Democrat, speaking on the condition of anonymity to offer an even blunter assessment, told Axios: "The people that have been voting ... with Republicans on these messaging bills are people that could get primaried."
"These groups are paying attention to that," the lawmaker said.
State of play: Democratic town halls across the country have been erupting into fury over Senate Democrats' decision to let a Republican spending bill pass rather than use it as leverage to constrain DOGE."

In the past bernie. Your blue #fascists faction hasn't repped for the #workingclass in more than a half-century. That’s also true of the economically desperate-for-decades #middleclass who constituted the majority of the people involved in the #Jan6 congressional barge. YOU SAID SHIT that even further alienated them, assjack fake 'socialist'.

Just catching up on a few of my goto's. #BrianTylerCohen interview of #JamieRaskin, especially at the 13:00 min mark, on the lack of urgency from the #DemocraticParty over the CR vote saying they've been "slow to figure out how to deal with this fascist assault". Then Raskin calls out Jeffries & Schumer who live in the same neighborhood in NY, asking "where's the plan"?

Maybe calls from constituents is working!

"Should we celebrate that MeidasTouch is now the #1 podcast in America? They are certainly less toxic than right-wing manosphere figures like Andrew Tate or content produced by Ben Shapiro’s Daily Wire. However, their role in future Democratic primary contests will likely make them adversaries of the progressive left. They will continue playing their role as party enforcers for the same soulless elite politics that led to Donald Trump’s rise in the first place, and they will work to sideline progressive challengers and insulate their audiences from hearing criticism of the Democratic Party. Their influence will make it even harder for progressives to break through. These people are not allies of the left. They are obstacles to meaningful change.

If this is the future of the Democratic Party’s media ecosystem, it’s a bleak and cynical one. A party that relies on controlled messaging instead of real accountability will only accelerate its own decline. MeidasTouch and its ilk may be raking in views now—but in the end, they are helping to build a Democratic Party that is increasingly disconnected from the very voters it claims to represent. Thankfully, there are real alternatives. Outlets like Status Coup, The Real News Network, The Lever, BreakThrough News, and Drop Site News produce excellent original reporting that holds power to account. Likewise, here at Current Affairs we challenge both Donald Trump and the liberal establishment that enables him."

Seeing a buch of #fearmongering regarding Privatizing #SocialSecurity.

It's just so much fearmongering crap by a DESPERATE #DEMOCRATICPARTY

It's: "A Bad Idea Whose Time Will Never Come"

"Unlike private pension funds, Social Security reserves cannot be invested in private securities." 👇

PS. Privatizing Social Security has been considered before.. Prez George W Bush proposed privatizing it. No one, including the Democrats, said shit about it. #TrumpDerangementSyndrome

"It would be difficult to imagine a worse message either in strategic terms or on its merits. Ronald Reagan was, by any sane reckoning, a poisonous figure. He illegally armed contra death squads in Nicaragua and bloodthirsty Islamic fundamentalists in Afghanistan. He invaded Grenada for the crime of building an airport. On the home front, he crushed labor unions and demonized “welfare queens” to further his austerity agenda. He presided over the “Greed Is Good” era of Wall Street hedonism. American politics is still deeply disfigured by his legacy.

And Trump has massively benefited from the widespread belief that he’s a different kind of Republican, one who wouldn’t cater to Wall Street or start bloody wars to assert America’s right to “lead the world.” It’s impossible to understand the Trump phenomenon without understanding the profound backlash, even among Republican voters, against George W. Bush’s seemingly endless wars in the Middle East (which were continued by Barack Obama). After years of working-class Americans coming home in flag-draped coffins, Trump benefited precisely from the impression that he didn’t believe America has some special mystical destiny to “lead the world.”

What the Democrats Should Have Said

A better response to Trump’s address would have been to point out that the political substance of what he was offering was little more than warmed-over Reaganism"

"In fact, “most Americans” did not elect Trump, who did not crack 50 percent of the popular vote (and of course, over one-third of eligible voters didn’t vote). Musk is a bigoted fool who cannot be trusted to know the difference between pruning waste and destroying vital institutions outright, and the message that Democrats should obviously be sending is that letting billionaires destroy consumer financial protections is not the same thing as conducting a careful audit of government spending.

Annoyingly, much of the debate within the Democratic Party appears to be over whether the party has gone “too far left” and needs to stop paying attention to pro-immigration groups and the ACLU, or abandon racial justice as a commitment. Some even say that the “resistance” is actually working, because liberal lawyers have successfully tied much of Trump’s agenda up in the courts. But this leaves aside the massive ongoing unpopularity of the Democratic Party, and the courts are both ineffectual barriers and offer no path back to power or the implementation of a positive agenda.

But it’s pretty obvious what the party needs to do, and it doesn’t have anything to do with throwing marginalized groups under the bus. They just need, as Stewart said, a clear set of “New Deal” values and a clear agenda that can help people. That agenda includes a livable minimum wage, easy unionization, an end to homelessness, a robust fight to stop the climate crisis, Medicare For All, authentic public safety that reduces both imprisonment and violence, and a commitment to peace and global cooperation."

"Sanders fused his familiar criticisms of US oligarchy with the Trump administration’s unfolding efforts to dismantle the federal government, which have seen the White House work with billionaire Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and the 2024 election’s single biggest donor, to push through mass layoffs of federal workers and blanket deregulation of corporations.

“If you want to know who’s running the US government, simply look at Trump’s inauguration,” Sanders said, referring to the presence of the three wealthiest men in America — Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg — directly behind Trump, and what he called the thirteen “junior billionaires” with their net worths only in eleven figures, who he had tasked with running federal agencies.

But Sanders also aimed to galvanize a crowd whose participants had, before the rally, admitted feeling lost, worried, and even taking a break from the news for their own peace of mind. In a speech heavy on historical allusions, Sanders reminded the crowd that “doing something important is never easy, ” insisted that “now is the time to act” and get politically involved, and that US history is filled with accomplishments that were meant to have been impossible, but that movements of ordinary people made happen — whether expanding suffrage, abolishing slavery, or winning independence from the king of England (“an autocrat”).

“Trumpism is not going to be defeated by inside-the-Beltway politicians,” he said."

"“It’s their government,” Jeffries has said of the Republicans. No, Hakeem, it is our government. The government belongs to the people, not to the unelected Elon Musk. Trump was elected president, but that does not make him “king,” as he proclaimed himself the other day on Truth Social when announcing the end of New York City’s hard-fought congestion pricing policy.

This Democratic weakness is particularly catastrophic given that people are ready to support opposition to Trump.

Let’s look at his “ratings,” a metric that the former reality star is particularly obsessed with. Throughout this month, according to a range of opinion polls, voters have disapproved of Trump in proportions ranging from 42 percent to a whopping (and historic) 54 percent.

Democratic voters extend that dissatisfaction to their own party. According to a recent CNN poll, a large majority, 73 percent, of Democratic-leaning voters feel that Democrats in Congress are doing too little to oppose Trump. And the approval rating of Congress itself is at an all-time low, suggesting that voters would also like to see some opposition from Trump’s own party too.

The Democratic leaders’ inaction is particularly bewildering in the context of a growing opposition movement."

And remember folks, many so-called #ProgLibs #Democrats are really, as #Obama claimed to be himself, "Moderate #Republicans... ie. Moderate #Fascists.

"When you understand that the #DemocraticParty is NOT a leftist party, but a right-wing #capitalists party and the #RepublicanParty is a far-right #neofascists party then you realize why every piece of legislation and bailout in Washington DC ALWAYS puts corporations over people." -Ryan Knight 2:33 PM 23 Dec 20

Somehow the issue of #Gaza was laid on #KamalaHarris and the #DemocraticParty. It should never has been a differentiator in the election as #Israel has always had bipartisan support from the #USA. Trump has already shipped more munitions to Israel. It was Trump in his first term that moved the American embassy to Jerusalem, thumbing his nose at the Palestinians.

"A device capable of intercepting phone signals was likely deployed during the 2024 Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, WIRED has learned, raising critical questions about who authorized its use and for what purpose.

The device, known as a cell-site simulator, was identified by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), a digital rights advocacy organization, after analyzing wireless signal data collected by WIRED during the August event.

Cell-site simulators mimic cell towers to intercept communications, indiscriminately collecting sensitive data such as call metadata, location information, and app traffic from all phones within their range. Their use has drawn widespread criticism from privacy advocates and activists, who argue that such technology can be exploited to covertly monitor protesters and suppress dissent.

The DNC convened amid widespread protests over Israel’s assault on Gaza. While credentialed influencers attended exclusive yacht parties and VIP events, thousands of demonstrators faced a heavy law enforcement presence, including officers from the US Capitol Police, the Secret Service, Homeland Security Investigations, local sheriff’s offices, and Chicago police."

"Flying the banner of “more economic populism” enables the Left to focus on economic issues while steering clear of more divisive debates around culture. As we have argued, and postelection survey evidence has suggested, the Democrats’ poor reputation with working-class voters is due, in part, to the perception that they are culturally out of touch. Denying this obvious fact is folly. And if Democrats want to win more working-class voters, they have to address the problem head on.

Still, if some economic populists risk ignoring their cultural liabilities, liberal skeptics of populism risk a different mistake: advocating for a return to Clintonism. After all, the New Democrats’ worship of the “knowledge economy” and the old Blue Dog coalition’s embrace of NAFTA and the job loss that took place thereafter were a big part of why working-class Democrats left the party.

Democrats need to address the economic interests of the working class, which means confronting the millionaires and billionaires and the warped economy they’ve created, while also speaking to the values of most workers. And that means confronting liberal cultural elitism.

In other words, the problem is that economic populism alone simply isn’t populist enough."

"Outlets like Propublica have done well by adopting much of this program, albeit without any explicit leftist agenda (the fact that they seem leftist reflects nothing more than their commitment to reporting the truth, e.g., Clarence Thomas is a lavishly corrupt puppet of billionaires who've showered him with riches).

The fact that they've been as successful as they are on a national beat – and partnering with the scant few regional papers to do some local coverage – just proves the point. The Democratic Party doesn't need its own Joe Rogan – they need a nationwide network of local outlets, sponsored by the party, committed to never enshittifying, bringing relevant, timely news to a nation in desperate need of it."
