Also finished this dishcloth recently.

My mum asked for some knitted dishcloths, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to go through my Vogue Knitting Stitch Dictionary book and practice some of the neat patterns showcased in there. :) This one is called "Eyelet Blocks" with a garter stitch border, and an added i-cord loop for hanging.

A piece with mixed emotions connected to it.

I learned knitting from my mom, about 50 years ago.

After getting sick about 2.5 years ago, she had to give up any fibercrafts and so I made this stole for her - it were just her colors.

When she died last year, I took that stole with me. It's absolutely not in my colors, so I have a hard to combine it with anything but I still wear it now and then.

Cute pattern, and free! Using gifted yarn, not sure from who. No belly band, but feels like maybe a wool-synthetic blend...?

So happy to have something fresh to work on, while I also knit the final sleeve on Mom's sweater. Onward!

Maybe I'm just overreacting, but... These are my last Regia skeins. I won't be buying this yarn again. Second section dyed skein this year with a broken thread. Last time was Regia Paerfect - socks for my mother-in-law, but I was lucky it didn't ruin anything. For this project, I wanted a perfect color match. I started over and over, maybe ten times, to get it exactly the same... and look at this. They just cut off most of the red section. So disappointing.

I made a thing

It started as the Billie sweater by Sari Nordlund. I had 19 50g balls of discontinued yarn. I thought I’d use them up and get either a long sweater or a short dress! Waist shaped inward on a whim, then I got cocky and plugged in a Celtic-inspired cable I found for free on the internet.

The end result is 96cm/38” long :) Overlapping split hem which I did backwards by accident and will fix… at some point.

I’ve been sat quietly for a long time but I think it’s time for an #introduction. I’m Chronodile, a queer adult with ADHD. I’m a PhD student working on an atomic #physics experiment but my thesis is due soon and then I’ll start teaching at Uni!

My hobbies include #knitting and #crochet , but I’m also dead into science communication and outreach. I love #videogames (I used to stream on Twitch) and I enjoy a good book.

As a beginning spinner I bought roving from my local yarn store and etsy. There weren't many places to get spinning fibers a while back.

Now there's a lot more places to buy wool in various preps. I tend to buy more fleeces than roving now. Washed or spinning in the grease.

Use your first handspun yarn! It's not as "ugly" as you think. I made a crochet hat from one and a knit hat from another. I still wear them over a decade later.

My favourite #knit of 2024 was definitely the Fungus Among Us cowl by Mary P Hunt. I made mine in Malabrigo Aroyo. There is a #crochet version of the pattern available too. Both from Ravelry. #knitting

Turns out these hexagons are pretty good for meditation (that is, I can knit them with my eyes closed) so I'm up to 4! I'm probably going to be a little short on yarn and have to improvise for the half hexies at the edges of the blanket, but I'm pretty sure I can find or ply together something from my stash, so I'm going for it and I'll sort that out when I get there.

My seamless quilt is coming along nicely. For anyone interested in knitting this pattern, which is simple, or would be if I didn't daydream while working on each square. Here is the link to where I got the pattern:

Also, stitch markers are super helpful in the pattern for marking the garter section and each square. Trust me, I didn't think they mattered, but boy, was I wrong. Stitch marks are what make this, when I am relaxed and not daydreaming, so easy for me to fly through each row.

It turns out my server is participating in #Wrapstodon. (Thanks @shlee!) Protip: If, like me, you primarily use apps to interact, you have to log into the web version to see the notification. Turns out I gained 207 followers; my most used hashtag was #knitting; and I posted 1022 times putting me in the top 9% of users.

Invisible Jumpers

Photographer Joseph Ford and knitter Nina Dodd have for the last several years worked on their collaborative project called Invisible Jumpers, in which Dodd would knit a garment that blends in with a chosen environment and then Ford would photograph the wearer. The book was published in 2019 ... but the project continues adding animals, arists, musicians to the project. As Ford explains:

"The locations have to be eye-catching but simple enough to be able to be knitted. They also have to be places that aren’t going to change too fast, as the knitting takes a few weeks...

Once I’ve found the location, I photograph someone standing where I would like the model to be in the final picture. I draw over this scouting photograph and annotate the picture with different colors and patterns so Nina can plan how to knit. Often there are 10 or 12 different shades of yarn in a single picture, and up to 24 balls of wool at any one time for the more complicated designs. The choice of yarn has varied according to the background."

Exhibition around discovery of 10.000 designs from a factory producing textile (1852-1976 if I remember correctly), lots of floor covers. (Tapijten).

Beautiful. And artists responding in contemporary artistic fashion. Big room to produce own stamps and designs, my 4yo loved it.

🧶🧶🧶 Swatching! Why?

For my elderly roommate here at the nursing home, who spends most of her time curled up in a ball under blankets, isolated.

I offered to knit her slippers. These will be the Nordic Slippers, a simple pattern with lace detail at the ankle. Yellow is her fave color, and I sourced this gorgeous yarn in stash. No band, but it feels like wool - very expensive wool! Deserving!
