A gorgeous day by Loch Earn, perfect for a stroll along the waterside to a viewpoint above the roads. Magical!

Looking back to June, and a trip we took to Loch Earn in the southern highlands of #Scotland, in the districts of Perth and Kinross, and Stirling.

Am Bioran (608 m/1995 ft) and Beinn Fuath (649 m/2129 ft)

The deceptively calm stillness of a summer evening beside a lake. Looking out through a thicket of green leafy shoots growing beside the lake. Above the wooded far shore some tall thunderstorm clouds are being smudged in long hazy streaks across a pale blue sky by much stronger breezes aloft. The setting sun is tinting the clouds and haze in shades of pale gold and pink. Sky and far shore are mirrored in the very slightly rippled waters below.

This spot... is not easy to photograph. During low tide, it is just rocks. When the water is coming... you can get smashed by a wave OR you could get cut off from the shore. Gotta be always alert.

For #FotoMontag a departing view of the village of Flåm in Norway from last year's visit there. It's one of the prettiest locations in an incredibly pretty part of the world, and it doesn't hurt that it's got an incredible brewery there.

We're several decks high on a ship leaving a low-lying village settled on a triangular patch of nearly flat ground at the base where two mountain ridges split apart from the narrower valley they've carved out of the landscape behind. It's a bright day with a mix of light blue sky and patches of puffy white clouds above. The longer chain of hills and mountains runs from the left across the field of view, overlapped in front by the slope on the right of the nearer, taller, more verdant rocky formations. Sheer faces of dark rock poke out amongst the greenery of trees clinging to any flat surface and growing tall, though tiny and difficult to make out individually from this distance. The ground between the mountains and beside the flat, blue water of the fjord we're on is bright in the sunshine and a lush green with short grass. Houses and other low buildings mostly line the water's edge with roofs of red or grey tiles and walls of white for the most part.

This is a fire that I photographed from Buck Hill this morning, November 3rd 2024 just after 7am. I'm uncertain where the fire is located or what the source of it is, but considering the recent spike in wildfires in Massachusetts, I suspect this is also a wildfire. The building at the lower left is the former Norwood Hospital, which would put this on a bearing for the towns of Medfield MA and Medway MA, perhaps Noon Hill Reservation or Shattuck Reservation. So far I have not been able to find any corroborating source for a fire in those towns.

Last night's moonrise photographed using a telephoto lens, 2 miles away from St Catherine's Oratory.

Known locally as the Pepperpot it's a medieval lighthouse. I posted a video of this as it happened on our Available Light Gallery and Gifts Facebook page but it wouldn't upload here when I tried last night.

My daughter has just sent me this magical scene. I only really miss the unicorn! The image processing only consisted of a minimal brightening to be able to see the rainbow a little better. "After the rain" pictures are really something special!

The old bright Hanover town hall which looks a bit like a castle is in the background on the left under a dark grey sky with a fantastic rainbow above. A beautiful park landscape with a round stone path and a lake can be seen in the front. The shape matches the rainbow's bow, so it looks like a connected oval. There are trees and bushes on both sides of the little lake and light reflections everywhere. The town hall is also reflected in the lake.

#Sunset at #FlamingCliffs, #Mongolia

There's a spot in the #GobiDesert where sunset briefly casts light on the face of these cliffs. On the day of my visit it was cloudy and it appeared that I was out of luck. But as there was a fleeting moment where the sun broke through. I have tweeked the brightness-contrast to make the shot more attractive to me.
