The government should withdraw its misguided mandate. Business leaders must also take a role, making it clear that these dangerous moves are unacceptable, and pushing the companies they license technology from to deploy encryption, and other protections, without which their interests and those of their customers will be vulnerable.
We have ceded so many of the core operations of our lives and institutions to tech, we must recognise that strong encryption isn’t the enemy of security — it is security. The argument that weakening encryption will make any of us safer is as wrong as it is dangerous."

Ultimately, the entire deal fell apart after Clearview and ICI clashed about the utility of the data with each company filing breach of contract claims. The dispute ultimately went into arbitration where it is common for disputes to be settled privately. The arbiter ultimately sided with Clearview AI in 2024 and ordered ICI to return the contract money. To date, ICI has not paid Clearview, with the company now seeking a court order to enforce the arbiter’s ruling."

• CVE-2025-26633: A simple (but risky) bypass flaw in the Microsoft Management Console.
• CVE-2025-24985: This one also requires the attacker to convince a user to mount a VHD of their own volition. But once done, there is a privilege escalation flaw that can be exploited to take over the victim’s entire computer.
