'Tis The Season For Stress and Anxiety?

Should major events we all celebrate such as Christmas be a time of stress, anxiety, and burden when they all could be a positive joyful experience?

My belief until recently was tinnitus was only a painful ringing/constant ringing and didn't go away. What I perceived to be a normal 'static/white noise when my mind could not find any sound is actually common in

#Autism #ADHD #Anxiety #neurodivergent or #stress conditions.

Mine has gotten worse with ringing randomly rising in pitch + intensity until it will peirce my ear countered only if I find another sound to focus on until it fades away.

It can be caused by noises over 60db such as lawn mowers, chainsaws, fireworks and jet engines.

Causes: wax build up, exposure to loud noise, head injury, age, medication side effects and it is commonly associated with those diagnosed with ADHD, Autism or high stress/ anxiety.

Labour's new Mental Health Billl will end people with mental health issues (or crises) being detained in prison cells.... but the introduction of a legal requirement for any mental health patent to have a care & treatment plan shaped around their needs before they are discharged, may cause problems.

The latter sounds like a good idea certainly, but without extensive extra investment in community mental health resources may just slow discharges due to a lack of available support?

I am so glad I gave myself time this morning to listen to Ed Yong's talk from XOXO. https://youtu.be/ddy5uMdzZB8?si=vT8rVEuprpgEhJi4

Huge feels that came up for me about becoming disabled, worrying about my productivity, immunocompromised life under Covid prevention denial, getting well enough to go back to producing but realizing that is not good for me and not necessary, but still some guilt.

In other news:

If you think looking at art has a positive emotional & mental health benefit, there is growing scientific support to back up your feeling(s) about looking at art works.... it is good for you, and can help recovery in medical situations.

Medical Muses: Hysteria in Nineteenth-Century Paris (Asti Hustvedt)

The book explores the heyday of the study of "hysteria", through the lives of three women who were exhibitied in Paris as model hysterics. Sometimes very dark and sometimes amusing, the author goes beyond trying to diagnose them, focusing on the cultural context of "hysteria".

Why is #psychotherapy not considered capitalism's call center? After all, there is no school of #psychology that claims that systematic economic predation is problematic for mental health.

Psychotherapy has as a goal making you compatible with whatever funds it. That's what it means to be 'healed.'

"I don't care what other people say about me" is a very nice philosophy to have. And it's often quoted as the number one way to self-care.

Sadly, a lot of people simply HAVE to care. Because their job depends on reputation. Or personal connections. And one malicious rumor mill can cost them. Cost actual livelihood.

Think about that before you say "well, just don't listen to them!"

Could psychedelics also be useful for those without mental health issues? The way psychedelics work suggest so...

"The improvement participants with depression and PTSD experience [after therapy with MDMA or psilocybin] appear related to the profound perspective changes experienced and seem unlike the improvements seen in the currently available care paradigms."

What do you think?
