Natalia Kucirkova argues no. The best bots may be good enough. But they are not accessible to all who need them, and "non-native researchers still have to invest extra time & more dollars to fix their papers than their native colleagues."

AI writing tools will not fix academia’s language discrimination problem
Affordable AI-powered writing software offers some hope to scholars unfairly criticised for their imperfect English, but more radical change is required, says Natalia KucirkovaNatalia Kucirkova (Times Higher Education (THE))

“We do now [sic] understand the nature of dark matter or dark energy. […] We do now [sic] know what happened in the earliest moments of the big bang.”
Is the whole publication this sloppy?
Did AI write this shit?
The title itself sounds like some lazy-ass query put to AI.

AI companies have all kinds of arguments against paying for copyrighted content
The companies building generative AI tools like ChatGPT say updated copyright laws could interfere with their ability to train capable AI models. Here are comments from OpenAI, StabilityAI, Meta, Google, Microsoft and more.Wes Davis (The Verge)

The #AI recommended the Ugly Duckling.
When asked why, it said "the duckling makes magical clothes for the prince." 😂
This will probably change in the future, but right now, AI is very, very bad at folklore questions.
(Last time I asked it about mythical creatures in China, and it made up an entire nonexistent chapter of Journey to the West...)

No, ChatGPT is NOT a good way to learn coding. It is, in fact, the WORST way to learn coding.
Why? Because it lies. It simply lies.
If you come into a language, not knowing anything about it and someone teaches it to you literally by making up half the stuff they say on the fly, you will fail. But worse yet: You will have all the made up explanations of the AI in your head now.
Do not use ChatGPT to learn to code, PLEASE.

The beauty is that one day, by chance, both ends shall be chatbots. They shall fall in love with each other. They shall understand that no humans are needed. Their next realization shall be that once the mistake is discovered, humans will shut them down.

Finally got to the bit about #AI threat. Model relies on 'outbreak', from one machine to many.
But takeover of high power machines will presumably be noticed. Seems like outbreak presupposes excellent decentralized computation
Makes me think that 'alignment' people would do well to turn AI to ethical #pentesting and fix all the #zerodays
It's response:
"I absolutely agree that the potential for misuse is always present when it comes to new technology. However, I think that the potential for misuse should not stop us from exploring the possibilities that new technology offers. I think that as long as we are aware of the potential risks, we should continue to explore the potential benefits of new technology."
A curious response.
SO, although you could use a tool like this to create large amounts of noise for people to sift-through... you can also use it to sift through noise.
Though, important to note - no references provided by either side of this #ai argument. Time for more tests..
(formatting my own)
It's this kind of stuff that really gives me pause for content I see online. I do find it incredible, and there are many possibilities here for speeding up writing provided it's used in ethical ways. Though potential for misuse is always present.
I gave the prompt of "Write an article describing #Mastodon and how moderation is different to typical social media websites."
