A small killdeer stands protectively over three small eggs. The large plover, with its white belly and brown back and distinctive white and black neck rings, watches the audience with its red ringed eye. I planted a lot of native #milkweed this year to support the #monarch #butterflies and they were discovered quickly because the milkweed are now full of monarch #caterpillars. This one was found wandering up a stem of mealy blue sage after it and its siblings munched a nearby milkweed down to bare stems.

In der Schweiz gibt es auf fast jedem Berggipfel ein Kreuz oder etwas ähnliches. Gestern wanderte ich auf das Hinterhorn (1422m) auf welchem der gezeigte Steinmann steht. Der alpine Wanderweg dorthin führt durch eine 800m hohe Felswand. Als Schwierigkeitsgrad wird T4 angegeben. Ein Bild des Aufstiegs habe ich als Kommentar hinzugefügt.

In Switzerland, there is a cross or something similar on almost every mountain peak. Yesterday I hiked up to the Hinterhorn (1422m) where the cairn shown is located. The alpine hiking trail there leads through an 800m high rock face. The level of difficulty is T4. I have added a picture of the ascent as a comment.

▴ Breitachklamm

Located near the town of Oberstdorf, the Breitachklamm is one of the deepest accessible gorges in Central Europe. This massive boulder, wedged between the narrow rock walls, marks one of its most striking features along the scenic trail. Even though it’s not a particularly challenging hike, the dramatic scenery makes it a surprisingly stunning one.

Ein Birkenstamm, an dem in der Sonne von Betrachtungsperspektive aus links ein Grünspecht klammert. Der Specht hat grünes Vogelfell (a.k.a. Gefieder), einen hellen Bauch und Gesicht, eine schwarze Gesichtsmaske, einen roten Hut (sieht aus wie 'ne Kappe oder ein Iro) und er ist unten so gepunktet rennflaggenmäßig an seinen Stützschwanzfedern an der Seite. Er sieht aus, als ob er gleich kloppbereit ist. Sonst sieht man Birkenzweiglein und im Hintergrund andere Birken. Ich mag Birken ja urst. Spechte aber auch.

These flowers consist of a bunch of horizontally spread units, each a tall red vertical stripe pointed at the top and split out at the bottom, each with a circular black protrusion in the centre. A few greyish-green leaves also show against the red soil.
