We are getting things done.
Linens are all washed and rooms aired out while the sunshine holds.
Lunch was served.
I told Summer that if we hurried through our chores we could plant some dahlias.
So we got our move on.
We unloaded the bags of soil before I sent Summer to fetch the new dahlia tubers.
Right when we were ready to dig into the dirt, here came the rain, to chase us back inside. Poor Summer had to drag her dahlia tubers, back to the garage, so we can try again another day. The disappointment was real.
Summer is my all time favorite gardening buddy.

Yesterday, was a lot, with the contractor's crew working long after dark to secure the house before the storm arrived. By the time they cleared out we were all exhausted. I wasn't expecting to be working construction, but when the job doubled in size, it was all hands on deck.
I took the morning off to rest but Summer needed to get out and run.
I figured I could handle a quick walk at the beach.
The fresh but crisp air was good for both of us.

When we got home we settled for a late afternoon romp around our property for more exercise. We saw birds and daffodils and sunshine that looks warmer than it really is.
Soon we will have hundreds of blooming daffodils.

Summer was excited.
It looked like we might have the whole place to ourselves, but on our way back I could see another person coming our way with two dogs off leash.
I took Summer off the trail and put her leash on. I could see two German shepherds running at us at full speed. I yelled at the person to call his dogs. Summer sat between my legs and stayed put. The first dog that got to us knocked me over trying to get to Summer. I wrapped my arms around her and kept loudly asking the person to get control of the dogs.
Finally he called them off. He said he was traveling and where he comes from it's each dog for themselves. His license plate was Massachusetts. I said I didn't know what to say to that statement.
I was very unhappy, but we weren't badly hurt.

It's funny that when my husband requires most of my time I don't see all of the small projects that need doing. When he is feeling better they look so obvious.
I got a rare phone call from my daughter looking for comfort in these turbulent times. I think I was able to help a little. At least she knows they are not alone.
Summer says she is here for everyone who needs a cuddle.
As soon as I said cuddle she perked right up.
She is ready.

Summer, too.
Last night I ate something unusual, at least for me, for dinner. The outcome wasn't pretty. I threw up multiple times and didn't sleep all night. Of course Summer stayed awake to comfort me.
Even though, we have been getting our chores done, we are both tired today.
Summer is an accomplished napper, better than I am.
This morning I had no voice, but it's back now, and I feel more alive.
I will be perkier tomorrow.

I wasn't feeling it.
The wind and rain are fierce and not likely to stop until tomorrow.
So, it's inside games or no games.
Once she weighed her options, she got her toys, and headed for the stairs.
We did have fun.
My husband teased that I was retrieving the toys more than the dog. That's how this game plays out sometimes.
I do love Summer to the moon and back. I hope it's mutual.

We are all unhurt but without power or water for now.
Summer is trying to keep her pal warm.
We will need to get a generator going soon if the power doesn't come back on so our food doesn't spoil.
I think we got lucky. We will know more after we get power back. Hopefully, our well is good.
I hope our friends and neighbors, in the Eel River Valley, are safe.
Summer is stressed but staying close to her pal.
Thanks for worrying about us. This wasn't quite the big one but was no fun either.

Summer's pal is meeting with the provider at the VA who is treating him for neuropathy on a video appointment.
Summer is multi-tasking. She is listening to everything they say while keeping his recliner warm.
She was fabulous during the storm last night. When our power was out she layed down next to her pal and kept him warm in bed. She handled the wind noise and was much more relaxed than she has been with past storms.
She is the best, best friend ever.
