I just bought this because I am very very very very very jealous of his freedom to travel around small Aussie towns photographing this and that. The book looks great, Now I just have to go and pick it up because A$50 for international shipping is no laughing matter.

Purple donkey orchid (Diuris punctata) still flowering in mid-November on the edge of Croajingolong NP, VIC. Lightly blotched forms are possibly hybrids with Diuris meridionalis ms (blotched donkey orchid) but still haven't sighted this rare species at this location.

Several layers of translucent brown to white mushroom cap fans grown on a moss covered stump. The caps have almost transparent edges and what little white protuberances poking up from the top. They look and feel jelly-like.

By some accounts Robert Frank's photobook The Americans changed photography for ever.

If you've not seen it here is a section with some contextual captions from The Guardian & you can judge for yourself.

Might be just what you need this Friday?

Is it the hippo, the tiger or bear, or an elk that you seek from here and elsewhere?

'Scotland’s tired landscapes declared hidden ardour in the sun. Brown became bronze, yellow turned to gold, and rust to shining copper.'

A colour photo of a woodland. The trees have lost most of their leaves and the sea of bracken is dying back but in the sun the colours are so vibrant.

Just found out my image is going to be included in the 4th Natural Landscape Photography Awards book! That means that while my image didn't win, it did make it into the top 1% of images!

This is the image submitted. The #NLPA awards focus on natural and true to life editing - so, aside from the b+w conversion this image is as if you were there with me. No AI, no Photoshop.

Looking forward to seeing this printed in person 😍

DXOMARK’s Apple iPhone 16 Camera test

Front view of an Apple iPhone 16 with a blue pattern home screen and no icons. Slightly behind it, to the left, is the rear side of an iPhone 16 showing the two round camera lenses.
Although I no longer use an iPhone, I do always find DXOMARK’s benchmark testing interesting for the various flagship phones. It shows too that a megapixel number is not what you should compare one phone against another on.

I always try to compare based on like for like tests done between the various devices.

Spoiler: iPhone 16 falls behind the Pixel 9 and 8 cameras. But still it is worth “zooming” in on the aspects that are important to you as none of the phones perform equally across all the different aspects measured.

The image depicts a black and white photograph of an old, rustic wooden building with multiple windows. The structure appears to be situated in a rural area with barren ground surrounding it, indicating arid or semi-arid conditions typical of farmland or desert regions.

In the background, there are additional dilapidated structures that seem similar in construction style but less maintained than the main house, possibly suggesting an old settlement or farmstead. A broken wooden fence is visible in front of the building with a gate partially standing on its side, adding to the sense of neglect and abandonment.

The overall atmosphere conveyed by this photograph suggests desolation and decay typical for ghost towns during periods where economic activity ceased or drastically declined. The lack of vegetation and the arid landscape indicate harsh environmental conditions that may have contributed to the downfall of such settlements over time.
