This photo was taken on a recent trip that included #KranjskaGora in #Slovenia. Slemenova Špica was probably my favorite hike of the trip. We had just finished climbing up the initial steep hill in deep fog only for this scene to reveal itself as a reward. Sometimes you make a photograph and other times #nature gives it to you. What a beautiful country!

Here is a globular springtail (around 2 or 3mm in size) floating on water and cleaning themselves with a water droplet. They use the water droplet to clean but also to moisten their skin as a way to retain water. As they are so small, losing too much water from their body is a danger. They are often found in damp and moist environments. This one was filmed in my garden a couple of days ago on a barrel which had filmed with rainwater.

It's an interesting exercise posting an #introduction I'm here because increasingly I am seeing traditional social media become anti-social media.

I miss the days of ICQ and to a lesser extent MSN Messenger. I also miss the original IRC and the joy people had of even having the opportunity to be online and connect. Hopefully we can rediscover that joy of connection in new places.

This is one of my favorite shots of all time. Taken in 2020 at Allegheny State Park in NY. It's not often I get to photograph the sunrise but I couldn't have been happier with this one.

The snow melting and leaving a lot of brown patches, a clear blue sky with lots of sun, which is nice for me to see - but not for a cool photo. - BUT it was a good hike, that's what I have to keep repeating to myself

I was fortunate to see whooping cranes for the first time recently. As the sun was setting, three took to the air, circled, passed right overhead, and honked--close enough to hear their wing beats.

In the 1980s, my biology professor used them as an example of a species about to go extinct--he wasn't optimistic as to their fate. By 1860, their numbers had dropped to 1400. By 1942, there were 16--all in one Texas population. Today, there are ~536 in Texas and ~800 total.

Just three snaps from my hike today. I didn't want to try anything new to be honest. So I just went for this summit. The views were great, especially with the fog down there.

It hasn't snowed for a while, that's why there are a LOT of brown patches of grass around. Not really great for nice #photos to be honest. But it nice to get out and have some exercise.

Oh and I was SUPER happy about my spikes. Some parts were just ice.

Since I started as a photographer, I have always loved silhouettes, the low light of the evening or morning. I love these atmospheres. During a recent trip to Finland, I had the immense privilege of meeting this mother bear just before nightfall. For me, it was such an unforgettable moment.

Depuis que j'ai commencé à photographier, j'ai toujours aimé les silhouettes, les lumières rasantes du soir ou du matin. Les contres et frisants. J'adore ces ambiances. Lors d'un récent voyage en Finlande, j'ai eu l'immense privilège de rencontrer cette maman ourse juste avant la tombée de la nuit. Pour moi, ce fut un moment inoubliable.
