#photography #fall #wisconsin

There hasn't been much positive on my timeline today. Given the tohu-bohu in the news, it's hard.

So here's a fall scene.
A line of trees in fall colors, behind the edge of a cornfield and stand of some grass. The sky is blue and clear.

Croajingolong National Park wildflowers - still some late waxlip orchids flowering on the edge of the forest in late October with an occasional flying duck out in the fields of pink trigger plants (plus sundews!) near the Genoa River, East Gippsland, VIC.

I really hope that everyone had a very Happy Halloween. Nothing beats this time of year, when the nights are drawing in and you have the comforting glow of Jack-O-Lanterns fluttering throughout the night.

As trick or treaters came knocking at peoples door, it was wonderful to speak to so many people within our South Manchester community. Parents and kids were all in good spirits and costumes were creative.

A very grungy Polaroid shot for today

First flowers out in early October on the patch of sun orchids (Thelymitra pauciflora - or adjacent) just behind the house at home in Corunna, NSW. I first noticed a handful of flowers out the kitchen window post 2020 bushfires - with a slight adjustment to lawn mowing I now have 150+ plants! Quite a few interesting variations out this year so not 100% sure on the ID now - or if there are actually multiple species growing together.

Caladenia carnea (pink fingers) variations growing in light forest near the Wonboyn River, NSW. These plants are much more more uniform in flower size and shape than similar forest populations of this widespread orchid further south in East Gippsland VIC - and also out slightly later.

I've never seen any other small Caladenia orchids at this location - which may be part of the reason for less variations compared to populations near Genoa, VIC where there are 4-5 similar Caladenia species out in early spring - possibly leading to some degree of hybridisation.

Clearing out all the past-their-prime zinnias from the front garden bed yesterday and this giant swallowtail showed up and hung around the lantana long enough for me to go grab my camera.

First duck orchid of the spring starting to take flight near Genoa, VIC. These large duck orchids (Caleana major) are fairly common around Mallacoota most years but are usually out in larger numbers in October. Only saw the one early flower on the one plant this trip.

by Finnish photographer Lassi Rautiainen documented the unusual friendship between a female grey wolf and a male brown bear, spotted every night for ten days straight, spending several hours together. they would even share food with each other. #Photography #Photographie #Fotografie #Nature #Wildlife #NaturePhotography #WildlifePhotography

I just realized I haven't shared sandstone #photos. Sandstone is fascinating and #beautiful and forms various crazy shapes. Endless possibilities for both large and small scale #photography. Photo is titled 'Among the Waves'.

A two frame composite of the Milky Way and my kitty "Ding" waiting for me to join him in the freezing cold tent. Ding loved to go camping with me. I sure do miss Schrödinger, the Kampin' Kitty 💔. (Photo: Massacre Rim, International Dark Sky Sanctuary, Nevada (5/23/2020).)

Good morning. 😴⏰☕

A few weeks ago, I received a reply on Mastodon from a guy who was upset because I updated a post that I made months ago. It seemed to bother him greatly that I corrected a spelling error on an old post. When I notice errors, I do take the time to correct them, and I use old content. I explained what I was doing to the guy, and it seemed to bother him even more because he felt the need to try and insult me online, so I blocked him. But I wonder, I won, won, wonder, why it bothered him so much 🎶.

Hmmm ... Charlie is bugging me and Ben is barking, it must be close to mealtime.

"The image depicts a serene scene: a body of still water reflecting lush green grass and plants along its edge. The reflection creates a symmetrical effect, with the real grass above and its mirror image below, divided by the waterline.
